August is the month when we've seen the Loch Arkaig ospreys depart on their journey south. We've enjoyed watching them this year - the wonderful parenting skills of Aila and Louis, and the antics of their 3 chicks, Captain, Vera and Doddie.
Mary GK did an absolutely wonderful video summarising the 2020 season. Thank you so much Mary! And here is Geemeff's great compilation, thank you!
2020 last dates:
Doddie JJ6 was last seen at the nest on Saturday 15th August 2020
Aila was last seen on Saturday 22nd August 2020
Captain JJ7 was last seen on Sunday 23rd August 2020
Vera JJ8 was last seen on Saturday 5 September.
An unidentified osprey was seen off camera on Sunday 6 September eating a fish. This could well have been Louis, having arrived and found no Vera around to feed.
Doddie JJ6 was videod and photographed fishing for over a fortnight at Avalon Marshes in Somerset

The camera is still down. On the basis it might not be a quick fix, I am also going off-line. See you on Saturday. Ian
17.25 Cam's back up, and according to Liz B watching through her scope, probably no action was missed during down time as she saw Vera in a tree nearby for most of the down time.
17.35 Flat fish delivery from Louis. As ever, I heard JJ8 and dashed to the laptop!
Louis flew off as soon as he could
JJ8 checked all around
Before flying off with it at 17.39. Blink and you'd have missed her!

I think JJ8 was a tad excited at her fish delivery that fly by was so funny before the fish delivery
EJ's Memorial Balgavies Loch Ospreys 2023
She visited again at 18.22 with a few calls, but on the whole looking calm and regal. Is this her farewell?
after this pic she spent the last minute, before her departure, looking all around, very quietly, almost looking at the cam on a few occasions, taking in everything around her. Perhaps the final imprint. And then she flew at 18.26.
or perhaps I am just anthropmorphising!
Dad brought me another fish!

I keep imagining every glimpse of JJ8 is the last - I've got a big file of unlisted youtube videos all labelled 'possible final sighting'! JJ6 took me by surprise, leaving so early - I've got a video of him receiving a fish on the 15th, but it ends shortly before he left the nest for the last time so I don't have the final sighting of him on the nest. However, we do have those marvellous pictures of him fishing in Somerset, which makes up for it.
