JJ8 on the nest with an abundance of fish and shouting......at who or what? She has known flown taking fish withher but I am happy to have seen somebody AT LAST

Thanks, Mary, I've only just seen your comment from yesterday morning (7.40 AM). I've heard of Rothes but was not following then; I'll have a read of your links. I think that Breagha, tagged Loch Garten chick (2013), did have a stop-over in France, both on his migrations south and back north, but I do not think he was photographed with a fish. He must have caught fish when on his first stop-over there; otherwise he would not have survived. It was such a shame when he died in France, having stayed there a bit too long, and presumably came to grief during a storm.

22.33. Good evening. Here is the Doddie news from Shapwick Heath, Somerset. This afternoon, at 17.29 hours, your correspondent spotted, through binoculars, Master D, aka JJ6, perched on a dead tree at Noah's lake. The instant I foccussed the scope, he flew off in that manner and style we have all become familiar with. No photos unfortunately. I did, however get independently confirmed sightings from three other people of perchings numerous, fly bys numerous and THREE SUCCESSFUL FISHING FORAYS TODAY! It would seem his fishing success/failure ratio has been very high in the positive column since his arrival on the 23rd(?). Furthermore, he has company. Another osprey, sex, age and ID indeterminate, has arrived on the lake: they seem at ease with each other. Local knowledge suggests Doddie will remain at least another day to boost calories. Happy, happy day. That's all folks. Night, night. Edit: We were last to leave after brilliant sunset. No more sightings or reports.

Possibly the strong winds on 25 August have brought down a branch they can use as in 2018. Although we don't want them on the nest (now is as good a time as any), they are marvellous creatures in their own right. I wonder if their scent will encourage JJ8 to get on her bike!! Ian
