Daily Update (LG Nest) Tuesday 3rd August

Hi everyone.  Feeling extremely tired so really need to go and roost.

Here's to another day at Loch Garten. :-)

Goodnight everyone.  See you all later.

Paul.

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

  • Thanks for  the pics Heron, Joan, and Lynette

    and shhh but I heard a chirp from one GEM insisting that EJ had promised him the next whale to arrive . The other two GEMS looked a bit scathingly at him and chirped that he'd have to get to the nest first if he  could then and looked 'knowingly' at each other as if to say ''we've got it covered - we'll share and teach the youngster a lesson in trying to outwit it's older siblings;;

  • Good evening all and thanks for the pics Lynette, BrendaH and DjoanS.  Just logged in to an empty nest but could hear someone calling in the distance.  OH watching football so have just having a look in and to to see if I will catch any action.  Not many fish today and no doubt GEM's hoping for an EJ delivery.

Heron 77 your posts just make me smile so much and Cirrus like your response to speculative postings.

  • Can hear someone calling but not in sight.  Will say goodnight now and hope to be able to spend a bit more time tomorrow trying to catch our osprey family.  I suppose it will be my luck that I will log out and there will be a fish delivery which I will read about tomorrow.  Have a good evening all now going to catch up with some reading.

  • I've just checked back Margo (although a post I thought I'd just posted seems to have gone into a black hole) and so far only two fish today - an Odin fish and and EJ fish this morning and one of those was left in the nest by Eldest who flew off leaving it !!  (GEM just arrivedd)  and Odin took it  !!!!!!!!!!!!  So, in reality ONE fish today between the 3.

Are they fishing for themselves (I wish) or what !!!!!

It's Middle juve on the nest

  • Nite Margo

EDIT  Middle juve has flown off

  • Hi Cirrus was just going to log off when Middle juve arrived but he didn't stop long.  I am wondering if they are being dropped fish in a tree now or as you say perhaps fishing for themselves as it seems a bit strange that fish was left on the nest.  Really going now see you tomorrow.

  • GEM 2 back on nest and makiing like she expects a fish . POSSIIBLY she can see mother   eating the head of a whale (she wishes  ... WE wish, come to think of it)

  • Oh um  ... I wish I could believe fishing for themselves Margo - actually, that's just on my wish list. And, I think it's more likely to have fish dumped on the nest and THEN the juves fly off with it. That's how it happened last year, anyway. I DO wish the Staff would give us just a little more info. I think I'll go visit the main Blog - see if any of them has posted anything interesting there. If they have I'll copy and past it over here.

  • Not what I was looking for Margo - but just couldn't resist copying this SUPER post by Hazlewoods over here for us all to read in case we haven't .

IIRC Nethy's signal was in the same position for several days, suggesting that either she had perished somewhere where the battery was still getting enough sunlight to charge it and transmit, or that har "rucksac" had fallen off and was still sending out signals.

Mallachie's transmitter had always been less than perfect. Hers may well just have given up the ghost and stopped working, leaving Mallachie flying around with  a non-working tag.

I suppose the chances of Nethy's tag having fallen off are very low, but the likelihood of Mallachie's transmitter being faulty are very high.

So maybe next year we will find Nethy back, looking for Roy to complain that he didn't sew her in well enough and her multitude of fans were unable to follow her progress :)

And the following year we will have Mallachie back, studying the Sale of Goods Act. She'll be headed to the tag suppliers to complain that it wasn't fit for purpose and she'll be looking for a full refund. Maybe also looking for a replacement so her multitide of fans can follow her again.

Sounds far-fetched? Maybe, but these are our ospreys and they haven't read the Osprey Handbook. They are re-writing it to suit thermselves.

  • well, haven't posted as there hasn't been much to post about:(

I have a feeling some of the chicks may be fishing for themselves.
