Continued from Manton Bay – May 2020
The history of the Manton Bay nest, breeding stats and links to previous threads can be found here
The season so far: The resident pair both returned on 16 March - Blue 33(11) at 07:12 and Maya at 13:16. For the second consecutive year, Maya laid four eggs – the first on 29 March followed by another three first seen on 4, 6 and 9 April. Maya and Blue 33(11) faithfully incubated the four eggs and on day 38, the first chick hatched 6 May c13:20 followed by Chick #2 on 8 May c06:10, Chick #3 on 10 May c14:45, and Chick #4 on 13 May c20:45.
All four chicks have thrived under the protection of Maya and Blue 33(11) who has once again proved to be a fantastic provider for his family.
In two/three week’s time, the chicks will be ringed and we’ll learn a bit more about them.

Apologies if I have duplicated anybody's post
Currently:
Two fish on the nest and Maya is now doing a little tidying up as the chicks sleep off their fish
07:55 33 has arrived
grabs one of the fish
and flies off with it
Thanks Karen for all the posts and updates - if it rains heavy here I don't think there is much chance of Maya being able to cover the chicks, so fingers crossed for dry weather until they fledge.
Knowing 33 he would probably help out covering the chicks.

Just having a look at the forecast Mary. Light rain showers and a fresh breeze!
Really admire Maya for although she cannot possibly cover them - she'll try :-) And like you I do think 33 would help out.
He really was a star the other day taking over Maya's role watching over and feeding the chicks for most of the day to give her a break. He really looks after her :-)
You're welcome Cirrus and nice to see you here :-)
10:55 Just checking the nest and they are all soaked.
Maya starts feeding #4 and an older chick from the fish lying on the nest.
#4 stepping back
After just a few bits, Maya stops feeding - #4 appears to want more
11:07 but turns away and soon Maya is back in among the chicks
11:14 Maya rises up from the chicks and they line up wanting some fish!
11:16 Maya now gets hold of the fish and starts to feed
11:29 Chick turns away and Maya cleans up around the nest
Goodness!
11:35 33 arrives with a twiggy branch
gets tangled in it
a gust of wind carries him across the nest!!
luckily he manages to untangle himself
and eventually the branch falls down into the bay
13:30 Some greenery on the nest and now 33 arrives as a chick stretches out its wing
13:37 Maya returns from a break and they both watch over the chicks
