When I was a child and got any communicable disease such as whooping cough, measles, etc. the city sent someone out to tack a "House under Quarantine" sign on our front door. My Mother got more upset by the sign than she did having to take care of us!

Worrying news about Boris being taken into intensive care...

Yes, doesn't sound good. Although he is only 55, not 85. He has always seemed to have good health in the past which should stand him in good stead.

bjane - don't remember that happening where I lived, mind you I had whooping cough as a baby and measles when I was a little older.

What a lovely day yesterday. Dau went out in the garden and cleared a whole lot of ivy for us. The garden is overgrown with it.

My brother had scarlet fever as a child. I remember my parents having to look through a screen when visiting him .
He hated it in the hospital. The nurses were very strict. They took his sweets away. No child would be treated like that now.

Hmmm. Boris not my favorite politician, but would not wish him harm...

I prefer a Boris to a tangerine :/)))))

To change the subject, in these worrying times ---

Sis in law Sue was just cooking one of her favourite dinners when the phone rang. Guess who? Awful Cousin in Canada. She talked. And talked. She told her about her dinner cooking, but she kept on. She put her on speakerphone and rattled about, getting her dinner out of the oven. She kept talking. Sue's fish supper was only just edible. Grr.

When we were young and one of us caught infections such as measles, mumps, German measles, my mother would keep the sick one’s plates & cups separate. She would “scald” them. I guess she meant she used with boiling water from the kettle for those. We were on a farm but my sisters would bring the infections home from boarding school to us younger one.
