A ghastly article, AG, but it sums up the situation pretty well. A pity they couldn't be bothered to get a photo of the proper nest! I cannot believe that the production folk and team could be so utterly crass about wildlife, the intrusion, the disturbance. Given that the family moved to another part of the lake is proof enough. I feel the the NWWT, but I would have thought once 'strangers' were creating buildings, running generators 24/7, firing flares and making noise, it might have been a slight give-way that things are decidedly amiss in a quiet remote area in the heart of the Denbigh Moors. And it is not only the ospreys that have been, and will be, disturbed by it all. There is, I believe, a host of wildlife in the area.

Sheila it all happened very quickly in early August - the birds were off the nest by around August 7 and construction had only just started on site at Brenig by then - flares etc. came much later. I suspect that this programme was a fairly last minute deal between the TV company and Welsh Water. It was into August before Welsh Water talked to NRW, and the description they gave did not indicate that any additional licensing was required. NWWT were not consulted at all, and it became fait accompli very quickly - I don''t believe there was any realistic chance of NWWT getting it stopped. The TV company appear not to have understood the issue at all, or really wanted to understand it. Based on their understanding from Welsh Water, they have worked on the (clearly totally inappropriate) basis that anything more than 150 meters from the nest was OK. I think I know what might be going with the rural crime unit at the moment but I'm not going to speculate.

CL is male, ringed in 2008, Loch Lomond.
CT is sex unknown, ringed in 2008, Stirling.
