LLYN BRENIG, LLYN CLYWEDOG WELSH OSPREY PROJECTS CAPTURES & UPDATES APRIL 2020 TO END FEB 2021

5F Seren arrived with a fish just before 13.00. All 3 juveniles have now stuffed themselves.

After an early fish at 7.15 a.m., most of the food for the juveniles was again late afternoon/early evening. Both adults contributed again, and the juveniles all fed well. They are building up nicely - Dylan looks like a very slim Dad beside his sons.

Wet and very windy day at Clywedog. Two good sized fish close together around 2 p.m. look likely to have given all 3 juveniles a good feed but wet lens and wind have made reading rings a challenge. Fed has been a bit jumpy at times. OK now.

There appears to be an issue with disturbance at Llyn Brenig. Facilities are being put in place at Llyn Brenig for filming a TV programme. It has been said that this had been agreed with Natural Resources Wales and/or Welsh Water, and was well clear of the nest. However the ospreys have not been on the nest for some 2 weeks; they have been seen on the other side of the lake, Blue 24's track record is that she does not migrate until later than many other females. Observers have raised concern to North Wales Wildlife Trust, who have issued a statement in response.

Thanks for letting us know about the Llyn Brenig nest, AG. I thought it was illegal to disturb Ospreys! How can that have been allowed to happen?

Ann there is confusion about who gave permission to whom to do what, and where they could do it, but what ever it was it seems to have disturbed the birds. I hope North Wales Wildlife Trust will get to the bottom of this . Welsh Water and Natural Resources Wales are also involved at Brenig. There are other platforms around the lake, and one report said that a start had been made on a frustration nest on another platform, and that was where the adults were feeding the juvenile. Some experienced watchers think that at this stage in the season it will not be a long term issue for the viability of the nest site.
