Daily Update (LG Nest) Saturday 31st July

Well, hello all, Wasn't able to be around at all yesterday as tied up with final day of Kids Summer Club and Concert.  Fab week, but can now get back to serious osprey watching.

Seems it was a varied day with deliveries of fish and comings and goings of youngsters on the nest.  Some fantastic shots by lots of you and have saved some for my portfolio. At present EJ is still on the nest as she was when I logged on about 11.30pm yesterday. Over to the night shift, happy viewing, see you in the morning.

Lynette – thank you once again for night pics and info to get the next say started and you’ve certainly done a sterling job of day pics !!!!!!!!!!!! very many thanks  :). Also, not to forget  you  DJoan or you Lindy. Many thanks to all you jolly posters too. Off to read new Official Blog. Not hiking today so catch up with you all later.

    EN at the moment.

  • EJ arrives with a partly eaten fish, swiftly followed by two squawking young ones. One grabs the fish ... the other finds the bit of fish left on the nest!

EDIT - EJ also seems to have found a piece of fish on the nest!

  • EJ arrives with a fish closely followed by two GEMS. Eldest has the fish. Juve 3 the stick LoL

Ok , I’ve missed something here whilst page was posting. I think EJ is eating a fish that was already on the nest and  3 may have pinched the fresh fish brought by EJ from 1

  • I missed something too, Cirrus - at one point all three of them were eating! One young one has departed. The site is very slow to load pages today :-(

No, not necessarily Tiger , it's just that EJ's fish are (usually) SO much bigger and consequently last so much longer. But our brave boy certaily is still playing his part in the bringer of fish role. Any ideas why both of them are still bringing sticks into the nest ?

I think that bringing sticks to the nest is something are just programmed to do. Some ospreys do it more than others. There is the odd picture around of enormous nest. I may be wrong in this but my view is that Henry was a much more fanatical nest builder than Odin. One year (2006 I think) they put in a close up camera and Henry promptly buried it in sticks.

  • Is that Titch with the fish? He is certainly talking to it like he does!

Oh, Tiger, I did laugh at this. I had such a mental picture of the 'goings on'. Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I believe it is DJoan - he pinched it from his elder brother. I've seen him do this before but it still amazes me that Eldest gives up on a fish!!   First and Third are VERY assertive and I do think they are boys. Second, bless her, I do tlhink is a her and she seems to get 'phased' by her brothers assertiveness/aggression

  • I think the same as you Cirrus - boy/girl/boy ... have done for a long time ... but we will never know!!!
