There was extremely limited monitoring early in the season, Mary, but unless usual breeders were displaced - a little unlikely but not impossible - 3 of 12 breeding adults didn't return, a whopping 25%. Very sad.

She a beauty Jaydee, & I love the name, Dunstanburgh, & is a lovely part of the world. I wish her well.

There did seem to be a lot of non returners this year for some reason.

Thanks JAYDEE I read the Nest 2 news from an email and it was very sad to read of EB's non return In the words of the Queen an annus horribillis indeed as far as the non-return of known birds I wonder whether it has been a bad year for other migratory birds too?

Thanks Jaydee, good to see the chicks are doing well, and thrieving.
As you say, UV & his partner, do appear to have bonded well, it is sad, that they haven't succeeded in producing a brood this year, even 1 chick would have been lovely, but hey ho, thats nature. Lets hope for a more fruitful season next year, just glad he is back.

It is a shame that UV didn't have any chicks in his first year of breeding, as you say Cathy it is so good to see him back and establish himself in his natal breeding area, hopefully next year will be his year!  

Any Osprey that migrates and makes it back each year is a result in my eyes, they face so many dangers every migration, but seeing them breeding and having offspring is not only fulfilling for them, we get the joy out of seeing them do it.
