Osprey Sightings 2020

  Hi Sharon, you can upload your photograph for identification. I am not sure how this is done but hopefully another poster will let you know. I would be very surprised if it was an osprey in the UK in January, at this time of the year they should be enjoying the weather somewhere in Africa before arriving back here in the Spring. Ian

  It's a rubbish photo but that was as close as I could get before it flew off. We have resident Buzzards and Red Kite and I'm 99% sure it wasn't either. I have a picture of a kestrel dive bombing it too for size comparison. I can't see anything else that is similar to this?! Any ideas.

  Hi Ian, that was my thought too and I'd stopped thinking about it too much but it's really bugging me now. Being a farmer I'm an avid bird watcher / lover and this was not a normal bird I have around the farm.

  I'm not sure what it is Sharon but best guess would be Buzzard at that time of the year.

  That's what we've all had to concede. I have asked neighbouring farmers to keep an eye out and will let you know either way if we get an answer. Thank you for looking.

  1st picture is a rather blurred Kestrel dive bombing

  2nd picture shows the back

  3dr picture is the only one that shows the darker markings on the face
