Daily Update (LG Nest) Monday 26th July

Hi all,   wasm't in much yesterday so not quite sure how many fish were delivered.  Reading the posts there seems to have been a plethora of fish delivered and from what I can gather all three had good meals from them EJ and Odin delivering fish during the course of the day.

I won't be around in the morning as helping at Kids Summer Club at Church but will log on in the afternoon and catch up.  Happy viewing and hi to Annette, Aquilreen, Barbara Jean, and many more from overseas. And I'll say Good Morning in advance to all our home bloggers, keep the pics coming as I'll have to catch up.

Leaving you with last photo of the night: Notice the part eaten fish in the centre of the nest. Left by Middle and not wanted by anyone else.

  • Barbara Jean    Interesting idea that EJ may be influenced by the behaviour of the chicks in her choice of migration date. The chicks in 2004 must have been very badly behaved as she left before the third chick fledged.

EJ has been very variable in her migration dates but in more recent years she has been  late August sort of girl.

Here are her migration dates from Loch Garten.

    2003   5th August

2004   31st July (she left the nest before 3rd chick had fledged) (Possible sighting on 6th August)

    2005   18th August

    2006   20th August

    2007   19th August

    2008   14th August

    2009   27th August

    2010       ????

  • Can now hear rain on the microphone at LG.

  • Morning all and thanks for all the overnight and early morning reports. Also thanks to Gary for the clip of the last fish delivery last night. I tried to capture that but just missed recording it. Thanks also to Tiger for the list of EJ s migration dates. The time is drawing ever closer to the end of a fantastic season at LG. Looking back at other seasons we must  not underestimate how well everything has gone this year.

  • Absolutely agree, Alan -  the end result of three healthy chicks ready to fly off on their migration south, is a testament to both EJ & Odin's hard work.  The fact that we may ourselves feel slightly deflated by not being able to track them is not important in the overall picture of the success of what LG Centre had hoped to achieve.

  • Morning Gary and thanks for those two videos.  The one with the still flapping fish is priceless youngster coulldn't quite make out what was going on  and poor EJ not a lot of gratitude there.

  • Good morning all just logged in as I had to go out.  Probably just as well as I spent an awful lot of time on here yesterday.  Empty nest at the moment but they have all eaten.

Lindybird  I took your advice to log out for a while as I think OH would have been horrified if he had known the amount of time I spent looking in yesterday.  He doesn't mind but does worry about the one eye I can see out of.  Trouble is I am hopelessly addicted to everything that goes on and frightened I will miss something.

DjoanS pleased that things are going well so far and fancy not having to make teas or coffees all day long, most unusual.

Still got to catch up with yesterday's chat so thanks to the night shift and for pics.

  • Just caught up with yesterday's daily chat and the one thing that stands out is the fact that nearly every post mentions fish.  They were certainly well fed yesterday, so well in fact they could afford to leave the fish on the empty nest for a while.

Thanks for the wonderful pics as well.
