Like all of you, I am so sad for poor little #3.

After 3 hours of struggles with a non-timelined 6-hour download and a terrible fault in my video editor (now fixed! I'm nearly levitating!)...

Here are excerpts from the last hours of the precious life of #3.  You will see that is wasn't only Laddie who stepped on it, and I've left the section unedited so you can see how long it went on.

I have made the video "Unlisted", don't want anyone coming across it with no warning, nor anyone who's not involved.  It's over 10 minutes long.  I have deliberately not cropped it for a closer view.

Thanks for posting that scylla even if it’s a tough watch. Just a chapter of misfortunes starting with the feed being done right at the edge of the nest. It does seem strange that the adults are sometimes so unaware of the difficulties chicks are in, as we saw last year at Manton Bay. They are usually so careful and attentive. I assume neither recognised that it was a chick beneath their feet in this case. Nature is harsh. Let’s now hope the other two grow strong and fledge safely.

For once I didn't scroll back to see earlier posts this morning and now I am in pieces discovering that dear little #3 has died when s/he was doing so well Can hardly see through my tears When you think how careful parents are around their eggs its odd that they are not equally careful of tiny chicks

From scroll back, around 19:30, Laddie (left) delivered a fish to the nest. Lassie fed the chicks

Lassie stopped the feed after about 9 or so minutes to brood. 10 minutes later, she was up giving a second meal for the chicks, they didn't seem too hungry this time
