Hi all: Just a heads up - we're getting Server Error messages but posts are making it onto the thread. Just means you have to keep reloading the page. Check out last few posts of previous Weekly Chat to find out what kind of visitors TerryM had at her bird feeder yesterday. I blathered a bit but nothing to miss the ospreys for; pretty quiet in fact with some of the regulars off on vacation.
Diane: Grizzly Man is on television now. I know we've talked about it before, but it's still unsettling, what with his seeming instability, increasing paranoia, and the ultimately fatal risks he took.
Annette - OG asked this too & I was saving her reply until she returned. The weddings are Sep 18 and Nov 13. Yikes, less than 2 months to the first. I'm meeting Wattle tomorrow. I hear she has seen some birds in SA!!! If this was a book/author website, there would be problems posting all the little Richards. Or should we rename them, how about Moby Rick or Moby Richard, for example. I sometimes think it is just as offensive to see a row of asterisks or hear bleeps on TV.
Oh, AQ, the end of the program was wonderful. The scientist was traveling with two Aboriginal artists in the wetlands of the Northern Territory. They took her to a cave with a very early ochre painting of the "Creation Mother" as they called her. She was so beautiful! They think this art may have been created by the first Australians upon their arrival to the continent. Is it considered ethical to photograph or film the sacred Aboriginal art -- with permission? The scientist concluded that the first Australians may have arrived on the continent 60,000 or more years ago. http://www.humanjourney.us/australia.html
AQ: Please tell Wattle hallo - and of course give her the news about Titch.
Ok, storms moving in fast here.
AQ: I always watch the nature programs, too. We have a new channel on our line-up, National Geographic Wild, and I've been watching it a lot. I love Discovery Channel, National Geographic, and PBS. That's about all I watch. Please say hello to Wattle and tell her that we miss her on here. Enjoy your visit.
Alan; Really enjoyed the beautiful lake photo!
Brenda: So sorry about your mirror. Yikes!!! Terrible way to have to spend money.
dibnlib: I hope you have lovely weather for your holiday!!!
Annette: I tried to watch Grizzly Man, but it creeped me out. So wrong on a lot of levels. I had a hearty laugh over your comments about the censor software. Flying for the first time probably is like jumping off a diving board (which I, too, have never done!). It truly must be exhilarating. I dream about flying a lot. I don't actually flap, I glide -- very fast. LOL I'll bet those chicks' little hearts must pound so hard, but they must feel on top of the world after they've done it.
Night all. Everyone have a good Tuesday.

Diane - I believe some aboriginal art is allowed to be filmed. Other more sacred is only seen by the initiated.
Hello all! And thanks for chats, pics and everything :)

I saw this last autumn/winter and found it extremely sad and it haunted me for many days, just terrible....
Well, my vacation is over and heading back to trenches this pm. Have a nice Tues everyone!

Morning, All: Damp & grey here again, it rained a lot in the night so can someone tell it, It Can Stop Now Please, as my garden is now wet through after the previous drought.
Oh auntie - those weeks off went quickly didn't they? Hope you enjoyed your break from work, in spite of having all the worry of your Mum being poorly.(hope she is still on the mend & happy to be at home now).
I'm off to the Dentist soon, so will check back in later. Have a Good Day All.
Hello folks. Been busy over the last few days and haven't had time to read this blog (well, it was necessary to watch out for Titch's fledge and then I missed it anyway!)
Annette 'Whingeing' is widely used in Northern Ireland to indicate 'whining or griping' so you could communicate here with no problems!
Had a bit of excitement when walking my two older 'girls' (Nell was 15 on Saturday). We were in the woodland area of our favourite country park and two young boys came along and said 'There's a snake over there). Now, everyone should know that St Patrick banished the snakes from Ireland several millennia ago, so I was pretty sceptical, but they were right! Some people were gathered around a tree at the base of which was what I'm told was a corn snake, about 4 feet long. Two men who were on a family picnic 'rescued' it with kayak paddles and a heavy-duty polythene bag with air-holes and the Park Ranger took it to an animal welfare charity. I'll try at some stage to post the picture I took.
Just heard on our morning news bulletin that the red kites reintroduced by RSPB have bred successfully. First time in 80 years! Great to have some good news.
Sorry for wittering on!
Morning all,
Thanks for all the overnight chat etc. Not got a lot of time so I will just post a pic of Bassenthwaite Lake taken near the osprey nest at Dodd Wood:
