Weekly Chat, Sunday July 17, 2010

Hi all: Just a heads up - we're getting Server Error messages but posts are making it onto the thread. Just means you have to keep reloading the page.  Check out last few posts of previous Weekly Chat to find out what kind of visitors TerryM had at her bird feeder yesterday. I blathered a bit but nothing to miss the ospreys for; pretty quiet in fact with some of the regulars off on vacation.

  • Alan:  What a cutie - and what a nice place to stay for a vacation.

Heron: Yes, let me second Lindybird - no need to apologize. We have, in case you haven't noticed, quite a large supply of - um - difficult people on this side of the pond. What's worse, they get to carry guns here!  Eeew!

Lindybird:  Dog obviously has very good table manners; personally I like to take little bites of digestives to make them last, but can't compare in the no-crumb department.  Dancing is a great way to exercise; haven't been dancing for eons.   I'll take my raspberries with no sugar; just a large dob of cream.

We're busy getting OH packed and organized for his trip; have made a list of things to do while he's gone in between lolling in the garden and having lunch/dinner with friends. We have a lot of outdoor concerts this time of year, so may check those out too.

  • dibnlib: Have a lovely few days away!

  • Good morning from foggy Adelaide. Very quiet  - planes must be grounded. Funny I don't notice them until they aren't there! Washing will have to hang in garage as expecting more rain today & tomorrow. I am feeling very lethargic - very tempted to take my kode in the node back to bed. I heard from my friend who didn't turn up last Wed - by the time she discovered it was not Thurs, it was too late. Another candidate for the Lost the Plot Group!!! (As if I've never confused days, hahaha)

Lindybird - Another great poem. Thank you. Just a thought - if you want to remove the blank line between each line of verse, instead of hitting "Enter", hit Shift and Enter at same time.

Diane: Hope you don't get lightning running past your front door today.

Lots of local people had their computers and other electronics fried by the lightning storm last night. I felt really sorry for everyone. I unplugged everything here when I saw that it was going to be that kind of storm. It doesn't actually burn the ground, but it looks like it's traveling along the grass when it strikes so low and intensely.

I agree with Annette. I would never presume to judge your country, given what's happening here in the United States. And she's not joking about the guns -- people are even wearing guns during major political demonstrations. I'm very serious; the rhetoric and political climate in our country is becoming increasingly frightening. I'm starting to really worry about where it's leading here...

  • Evening all: Multiple multi-tasking here.  Watching Nature - Diane did you see it? - on The Andes? Found the sight of the flamingos "dancing" in a tight little group so enchanting - probably because it was so beautifully matched with some Andean folk music.  :-)  Also going over the planting plan for our garden (very complicated - unecessarily so methinks). And now about to go to the LG and LOTL cams.

Hey AQ: What was that you were taking back to bed?  I think I need a translation.  Glad you made contact wtih your friend - and thanks for the tip re getting rid of spaces!

  • Hi, all.

Lindy: What a lovely verse!!! You're so talented. Buzz the Dog does have good manners. My dog used to leave biscuit crumbs all over the house, and I was always hoovering up little piles of them (even in the beds -- Yuk!).

Margobird: Glad that you're enjoying your shows. Money was very tight in my family, too, when I was growing up. Lessons for anything were out of the question. These days, I try to challenge myself and acquire new skills. I also try to read and learn something new every day, as Annette says, to keep my brain in working order. I'm finding that I do like to work with my hands (carpentry, etc.), but Annette, ballet?!? No way am I wearing a tutu. Trust me, nobody wants to see that. Gravity is not my friend. LOL LOL

Annette: No, I didn't see Nature. If it was good, I'll try to catch the re-run. I love flamingos. I hope your OH has a nice and safe trip and that you enjoy your time of solitude. That will be fun for you. BTW: Your spelling is just fine, but you mentioned wanting a dictionary closer to your laptop. If you do have to write something formal (as opposed to our blatherings here), here's a dictionary website where you can search all kinds of dictionaries (medical, computer, science, etc.) all in one search. I used it a lot when I was working. www.onelook.com. My spelling on this site is awful. Makes me ashamed to be an editor.

dibnlib: I hope you have a wonderful time on your holiday!!! Also hope that you can find a light, inexpensive canoe. I'm fairly strong, but a standard canoe is really heavy when you have to lift it on top of a car.

Alan: Welcome back! Hope you had a nice time, despite that the weather didn't fully cooperate. The little shetland pony is adorable! If I had one, I'd have to keep it inside like a dog. :-) Just beautiful. I'll bet Hamish was glad to be home. (BTW: I told you that Spain would win the World Cup -- and I predicted it after they lost their first match. LOL LOL.)

AQ: I say retreat to your bed until you get over your cold. Find a good book to read and loll about for a while. Won't hurt you a bit. Lots of people are ill here (including my Dad), and it's not cold or flu season. Very strange. I personally think it's the poisonous gases from the Gulf disaster traveling with the hot and humid weather fronts from the south. But, then, nobody asked me. I've enjoyed all of your lists.

Cirrus: Good to see you on this thread. Hope life is good and you're enjoying your summer.

I'm off to bed. Hope everyone has a very nice Monday.

  • Diane:   Nature was good - but I love music from the Andes too, so that always makes it more appealing.  The BBC had a program years ago called "The Flight of the Condor," that was spectacular and I rushed out and brought the soundtrack.  Thanks for the dictionary link - I've bookmarked it, but if I have to organize one more window on this machine.....!   :-)   And every time the LOTL cam "refreshes" whatever I'm working on grinds to a halt until I activate the window again... speaking of which....

  • Annette: I loved Flight of the Condor. Brilliant program. Don't remember where I saw it, but it was wonderful.

  • Good afternoon. I slept most of morn, woke to find a blue-skied sunny day (stupid forecasters got it wrong), moved washing outdoors, opened cans of soup for lunch, promptly went back to sleep. Now mid-pm I feel much better, head cold has eased. (Annette - ‘kode in node’ was me indicating cold in nose 'cos I was talking funny).

Some years ago I collected "sayings" and kept in touch with friends & family once a week sending one. They could be topical, serious, funny or doubtful. So here are two that could apply to a certain intruder.
I was put on this earth to make your life miserable.
I'm not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.
