Daily Update (LG Nest) Sunday July 18th

Hi everyone, I've not been in much to the site today, on and off. It was thought that the youngest had fledged but this is in doubt and until it is confirmed by The Team we can assume that it hasn't yet.

There have certainly been some near takeoffs and helped by the wind, the youngest has jumped and "flown" across the nest but this is all.   It has been the eldest getting bolder and the middle one taking on more flights. There's time yet.

Peaceful scene here with two young on the nest and the eldest probably on the cam post or way to the left at the edge,, don't really know where he is.

Happy viewing and we'll see what to day brings.  Over to the night shift.

  • Hi everyone.

Thanks for the posts and pics.  Thanks to all who've posted info on Identifying the youngsters.  Although at the moment I'm affraid I'll have to claim a melted brain on that front.  I'm hoping to get the hang of it though.

Wind sounding quite furious at LG just now.  Two youngsters on nest, preening and looking their usual brilliant selves.

Hooray!   its been such a pain......

Here is the nest looking almost sunny, now:

  • Sounds like EJ shrieking at an intruder in the background ... the two on the nest dropped flat .... but EJ didn't come to the nest

  • Now they've cuddled up together and can hear someone (EJ ??) food calling in the background...

  • Hi Joan -  maybe you're right & its an intruder - I don't know.  Can I join the Lost the Plot Club, too ?

  • My brain is frazzled just now .... too much housework in one go .... in between osprey watching!

All seems quiet now ... I did wonder if Odin had brought a fish and had been followed by an intruder ... but he didn't show up! Lovely pic of them cuddled against the wind just now!

  • Good morning all and thanks so much to all for capture shots which are brilliant as is the video courtesy of Lynette. Would love to reply to you all but it was so busy yesterday I would have been all ay replying and missing the action on the nest.  Wonderful log by all of what has been going on as I have only just caught up with yesterday's posts.  Didn't log in again yesterday hence the long catch up this morning.  It seems eit is not certain that 3 has fledged but was doing it's best again when I logged in this morning.  Still sounds so windy at LG and I think it is 3 and 2 in the nest huddled up together at the moment.  Good to hear EJ brought them breakfast and it was up to her usual standard, that should keep them going for a while.  Hopefully will get a bit more time to look in today.

    Margobird

  • Hi margobird-   Odin also brought fish at about 9.17, following TerryM's  posting.  So theyve had some food today, for now.

Welcome Back to Alan - hope you enjoyed your week away, Alan -  As you can see, all three birds are now looking very similar & this has caused us some anguish in the ID department - its not certain whether #3 has fledged or not.

We have had our own 'intruder' on these threads but this person has hopefully and kindly now been removed by the Moderators.  EJ & Odin are leaving less fish now, as the 'chicks' don't need as much, & EJ sometimes leaves one on the nest for them to deal with themselves.

  • morning all and happy sunday.

Thanks for all the wonderful captures/posts as always:)

2 chicks still lying on the nest. I'd want to move that big branch if I were them!

I am still in the HGAC club regards id'ing the chicks and will stay that way now I think! lol

Someone just calling off camera now
