That's a really good stick, isn't it? I always wonder whether they pick them up from the ground or whether they snap them off a tree. Does anyone know?
They do either Alison but snapping them off is common.

Wow. Had to look that one up Mike!
LOL. I only know about them because they are often mentioned on this site and it is unusual to actually catch one in the act of removing and swallowing it. You will see on Chat that a couple of the regulars saw it happen. Sometimes they are rejected and found on the ground below the nest.
