  • EJ gave a very loud, I assume, intruder outburst about five minutes ago.  I had visitors at the time and could only hear her.

The Pulston forum gives a bit more about ospreys at hatch, here

  • Lovely captures, Limpy, thank you.  Perhaps it wasn't an 'intruder' call but just frustration!

  • thanks mike and ringer that's what I thought but wasn't sure I thought George had another nest I think he has got the makings to be a brilliant partner with the right female but some posts say he sitting near by

Again, at the risk of repeating myself, the good observant people of this forum report virtually every chirp they hear (a compliment and not a criticism) and many have learned to interpret EJ's calls and differentiate between contact calls, food soliciting and both 'human' and avian intruders (which are different). There is a wealth of evidence to suggest that EJ rarely gives prolonged food soliciting calls unless she can see her male - particularly when she is hungry.
Dusk yesterday was an excellent example - she started 'food soliciting' at about 8:36 and within seconds George had appeared and attempted to mate. These food soliciting calls continued for at least an hour and a half until I left around 10 pm. Scylla posted that she called again at 10:22 after the night cam had kicked in. All this evidence suggests that he roosted very close to the nest last night in my opinion.

Some people think Ospreys are a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.

  • 12.44 EJ got up and has flown.

She is looking much happier now the sun has come out, and more alert.  I wonder why.

It's slightly more than a fly about at the moment.....

  • 12.49 still not back.  A bathe and a drink perhaps...

  • The webcam has decided to die on me now, so thank you SheilaFE.

  • 12.50  She has returned with a chirp and settled on the eggs

A shake of her head, and looking refreshed.  I guess she has had a bathe too
