EJ predictably has been dedicated to incubating her three eggs. Our wild card this year is a young male. I believe our opportunity is to watch him learning (or if he will learn) and to observe EJ's wisdom in these matters. Thank you to Tiger for the reminder that cam watchers have experienced the same angst as we are currently with EJ. At the moment she is, also predictably, tucked in, dreaming of fish, or Africa, or maybe a good mate.© RSPB - Loch Garten and Carnyx Wild_______________________________________The Daily Update is for recording nest events only, allowing for banter, though—any questions or conversations can happen on the Osprey Chat thread. Thank you, Moffer. Response added to video post above :(
IMAGICAT
I hope this year will be remembered for 'the golden EJ'. I am not sure I have seen such wonderful colours at this time of night in previous year.

I can't really add anything that has not already been said today, I so sincerely hope that tomorrow will be better. A beautiful sunset on the gorgeous, wonderful girl herself. Sweet dreams EJ and George if you can read this, well you know what you have to do! Goodnight all.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Hi everyone.
Thanks for all the updates, pictures etc. It's a real shame about the lack of fish for EJ. I hope things are sorted soon. Of course tomorrow is another day, so I'll try to remain hopeful.
Warning! This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar. Approach with extreme edginess.
This is not the first time that we have seen an egg laid before there was a male around. However the female normally buries the egg in the nest as we saw with Mrs G at Glaslyn in 2015.
EJ's acceptance of that egg may have been a major mistake. Has George shared any of the incubation? The female needs the male to do at least 20% of the incubation and males are normally keen to do it.
A comment on fan reaction. Staff at another osprey centre were asked what time the ospreys were fed?
Tiger Signature
ha! good one Tiger!
Sorry if I've missed this, if any of the eggs were to be viable when would we expect the first to hatch?
Egg 1 was laid on 17 April. 35 days from that is 22 May I think
It would be very difficult to predict when egg #1 is due to hatch if at all.
First eggs normally hatch on 37 days. However EJ is particularly good at incubating and her first eggs almost always hatch on 36 days.
That would be 23 May. However since it was not incubated for a number of days that could slip to maybe 25 May.
Now the second egg was laid on 20th April. EJ's second eggs normally hatch after 35 days. So maybe 25th May.
Mind you it is all probably a bit academic.
Data on laying to hatching
Egg #1 always takes the longest to hatch as it is the biggest. Each subsequent egg gets smaller and takes a shorter time to hatch.
