Such a beautiful Osprey:
A subdued start to the new day, as LMAC unmasked the anxieties that many have had about GJ's unreliability, here and here, with convincing evidence.
A virtually fleshless fishtail was all that was brought for EJ to eat yesterday, she was gone for under 45 minutes.
GJ wasn't seen again until evening, when he popped in and almost straight out again.

The Daily Update is for recording nest events only, allowing for banter, though—any questions or conversations can happen on the Osprey Chat thread. Thank you!

She's quiet again now.
Morning everyone, I look in with trepidation. I'm rapidly going off this young man. I know it's nature, but heartbreaking all the same.
EJ must be able to see GJ as she is calling now and then
Oh bless her
Preening itchy feathers out
another nap
I have to go back to sleep, SYAL... when I hope there will be better news - I thought there might be a fish delivery earlierr but it came to nothing.
Morning All - thanks for all the updates and for starting off the thread, Scylla.
Hopefully a better day and the neglect has been down to poor weather. I'll look back in later - busy morning. SYAL
Good morning, all. Dr. Erick Greene posted an interesting note on FB about breeding success and age/experience, just based on his observations about Hellgate over recent years. The optimist in me still prefers to think GJ's lack of attention is due to youth and inexperience, and hope that his learning curve is more like Loch Arkaig's Louis than Hellgate's Louis. One thing for sure is that GJ's care of EJ and the nest is inconsistent, bouncing back and forth between zero and hero.
Some questions: Would a novice breeder be more or less likely than an experienced one to practice polygyny? In cases of polygyny, how equally does the male treat each nest, and at what point does he abandon one? How far away are the nearest nests to EJ's?
It looks to be a pretty day, with EJ hopefully getting the royal treatment she deserves.

EJ is calling............short lived
I don't know how old they reckon EJ is but she must be getting close to the age where Lady was last seen on her nest. I hate to say it, but is this going to be the last time this beautiful bird is going to grace us with her presence. It would be fantastic if she had a successful season.
