JUNE - Just been watching for 20 minutes before you posted and she has been on/off chasing another osprey. A female with a blue ring. The battles to keep the nest begin. She was carrying a half eaten fish flying around with it.
JUNE - There is a recording of the intrusion and chase on DU. Trying to ID the bird which appears to be Blue 08.
Thanks Keith, During the time EJ was off the nest I did see a bird in the upper right corner, far enough away that it appeared only big enough to barely ID as a bird, apparently an osprey.
I am glad other osprey have returned to LG> However, I do wish it were a single MALE osprey only. As Jag used to say "Let the drama begin!" I just hope the final results are good.
actually, I think he said "Chaos", which may better fit the situation here, but I hope not.
Yes I do think an unattached male bonding with her is the best option.
These type of intrusions are what we saw last season an attempt to win the nest.
Evening, June and Everyone else, too, and belated Easter wishes to you All!
Keith, I agree, the sooner EJ accepts a strong young male, the better for her and the nest for the duration of the season.
Kind regards, Ann
I think so ANN otherwise another season of unstability at what is a good post code for ospreys.
It will be interesting if an unattached male appears and what her reaction is. This intrusion appears to be that of a female.
Keith, Yes, I wonder if EJ will hold out for Odin. However, I think she is a pragmatic bird and has accepted other males when Odin was late. Hope a suitable bird turns up quickly!
Snow has been falling for some time now, going in all directions - more horizontal and up than down, I think. Even white on white,I can see that it has started to settle. The snow is definitely fluffier that the sticks.
