HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY NEW MONTH!
I hope everyone has a wonderful week and a good spring (autumn for AQ).
The roofing crew arrived on Wednesday, instead of Friday, to do some emergency, initial work on my roof. While they worked up there, R.T. Hawk and his mate flew over them several times, and then the pair sat in their pine tree and watched the crew closely. The men didn't pay much attention to their wary observers.
Red-tailed hawks are known to be very curious birds, so maybe they just wanted to see what was happening. I actually wondered whether the hawks thought the men were "intruding" on my "nest," even trying to steal it from me. In their raptor minds, they probably consider my house to be my nest. If I had acted distressed or angry, I wonder whether they would have helped me "defend" it?! LOL
Take care, all.
I'm here! On the ferry to Amsterdam, went on deck to watch as we left the ferry terminal. We had a picnic in my cabin as we were too mean to pay 35 euros each for a two course meal in the restaurant!! Currently going down the east coast of England all is calm.
Ship is very busy, lots of young people going to Amsterdam with youth groups. We have paid for breakfast and will eat just after 7am - hopefully the young ones will still be asleep!
Liking the tales of little ones and their songs-
Bon voyage, Heather. Sounds as though your holiday has started really well. Enjoy every moment ...
Lindy - yes, I can imagine that. The pine martens we saw today were quite large - about the size of a domestic cat - but on a double bed they would look small. Like the one on the EG nest. They have built enclosed runs over the paths for them, so while we were watching the owls flying the pine martens were running through their runs over our heads.
PatO: Wild Cats have overhead runs at Fife Deer Park - amazing to see them. Sadly they don't have the pure Wildcat genes, although they were from Highland Wildlife Park, so they are all neutered - I think they are about 80% pure.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Pat and OG, interesting about the overhead runs. I've never heard of that before. Seems a good idea, though.
I expect you are tired, Lindy! Looking after small children is not easy the second time round. Those songs will be buzzing round your head! Sleep well.
I continue to admire AQ for doing it on such a regular basis.
Hope you enjoy breakfast, Heather. I think you are right. Not many teenagers surface at 7am.
I played my last bowls game for the indoor season this afternoon. I was not on the winning side, but it was close.
The overhead runs are so good for viewing the animals. There was one weasel who was rushing up and down, round corners at breakneck speed, and obviously having a great time, showing off to the audience. I suggested he was trying to complete his 10,000 steps ...
Evening all: Here's a link to a photo taken today by Mike of Gray Whales Count fame (hint: it's NOT a whale). Enjoy... www.graywhalescount.org/.../5_Day_51_2018.html
PatO: Where's your local wildlife center? Sounds lovely.
Heather: It's 5 a.m. where you are; enjoy breakfast; hope the ocean is calm. Of course, those teenagers may be so jazzed about their trip that they may all be up early with huge appetites!
Lindybird: You'll be ready for a rest by the sounds of it.
Take care everyone. Hope OG is doing okay.
Hello, Annette. Our wildlife centre is in a place called Newchapel, in Surrey. It is indeed lovely. I didn't even mention the four types of deer roaming around, or the hares ...
Heather - hope you managed to have a peaceful breakfast!
Thought I should bump us up!
Sunshine for the second day running. Back to clouds and rain tomorrow.
Pat, I will check out that wildlife centre. Sounds a good place to take the
granddaughter when she arrives for the summer visit. Thanks.
I will look at that photo now, Annette.
Annette: That's a GREAT photo!!! I would also like to see your harbor seals in person. No seals in Indiana, and I'm always fascinated by them.
Rosy - it's a wonderful place for children. Normally only open at weekends and school holidays, including half-term. There is plenty going on all the time, and there is also a play area. Highly recommended!
