WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY, MARCH 25 2018

Evening all:  Good turnout at the march today, although here in California (and especially Santa Barbara) protesters are mostly preaching to the choir.  We heard short but good speeches from some young people and teachers from local schools and colleges.  It's great to see young people so energized. Those kids from the Florida high school have really started something.  Lots of calls for voting preregistration as many of them will vote for the first time in 2020.

Lindybird: Hope the baby pigeons survive this year.

Clare: Some beautiful markings on that bird. Congrats on finally spotting it.

Very springlike here today; must get into the garden tomorrow: The weeds are feeling entirely too self-confident and I have some salvia to plant while the soil is still nice and damp.

Hope things are better with Forestboar.....  Also that OG has a good ride back from the festivities.

Take care everyone.

  • Annette: I so wish I could see all of your hummingbirds. My Mom loved hummingbirds so much that I had one engraved on her gravestone. Those orioles you have are so, so beautiful. Last year, for the first time, I had a pair of Baltimore Orioles nest in the old tree behind my barn. They are also orange and black. I've sent you an email about color coding your appointments. Hope it helps. I'm not an expert... Your description of your phone upgrade was vaguely dystopian!!! Yikes!

Heather: Glad you're getting a new tech thingy!

Lindy: Technology does move on at a rapid pace. My cell phone isn't a smart phone, so I feel like I'm getting behind in phone technology. And the new smart TV and streaming technologies are overwhelming. Nice verse for Heather. Your latest photos were pretty.

bjane: I assume you also got snow over the weekend. Hope it's melted and you didn't have to shovel it.

All: I know I said that I was taking a break from this thread in order to work fiercely and relentlessly on my house. It turns out that I'm not as young as I used to be. Go figure! And I'm not physically able to work hard for hours on end. Anyway, I'm popping in here at break times to rest my weary bones.

  • Evening all:

AQ: Oh I'm SO impressed by the Kimba silos and love the early art on the Tumby Bay structures.  Joyful!  I'm going to send the links to my friend in Kansas City and will ask if she knows of any such efforts in Kansas, etc...   When I started work (ahem) computers were still a twinkle in Alan Turing's eye.

Diane: Got the message re the color stuff on Outlook. Thank You!

I'll explore when I can cope with the frustration.  :-)   Orioles are splendid - ours are Bullocks.   I wish you could see my hummingbirds too. Take it slow with the house - I'm spending a couple of hours a day in the garden where recent rains have spurred all kinds of growth.

    Have a good Friday everyone.

  • Annette – If you want more silo art. . . Oh heck, just  try Googling silo art Weethalle, Coonamble (NSW) or Thallon (QLD). WA scenes are different – Esperance, Merredin, Northam. I did see one in Norway, lots in US. That should keep you occupied for the whole weekend LOLOL.

  • Good Morning.  Dry here and No Weather to Speak Of!

AQ - Thanks for more links to silo art, which I think is stunning. I look forward to examining them later.

Diane - Please look after your health -  you can only do so much in a day.  We will worry about you!

When I mentioned training for using pc's in the office, I meant when I went back to work after some years off, after staying home with the children..... :-)

Hoping to get some things done from the To Do List myself, today.

  • They just mentioned the Dodd Wood Ospreys at Bassenthwaite on our Northern News!  - they're not back yet, but they're telling people to keep their eyes on the skies!!

That makes excellent sense - and we're pleased to still have you around!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Did I consider Good Friday gardening?  Well, that’s out – gentle rain so far – although I do now see a patch of brightness in the sky over my shoulder, so maybe this afternoon?  Perhaps we can do some filing and flinging in the study – had a nightmare about excess piles of paper last night!

Annette – uploading data from old phone to new sounds like something out of this world – but I suppose it is really as it goes up to a cloud then finds its way back!

Re computer tech – I did a programming course in uni – the language was Algol, entered on punchcards, and the machine filled two rooms in the Maths dept!  I did RSA CLAIT for fun about twenty years ago, run by a college using remote PCs in a factory about 20 miles away!  Now it is all way beyond me again!  I can’t use a smartphone and after years of keeping up, I have lost the inclination to upgrade anything, especially my tired old brain!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • OG   Hope I am right in wishing you a Very Happy Birthday. Two of my schoolfriend are also celebrating their birthdays today.

  • It's been raining hard here most of the morning.  It managed to be dry for our Walk of Witness into the town, but the rain started half-way through the service.  Really glad I borrowed an umbrella from the Lost Property!  But I reckon around 400 people were prepared to walk and stand in the rain, which is brilliant.  Just eaten two hot cross buns with cheese which is my annual Good Friday treat.  Worth waiting for.

OG - a very happy birthday.  Hope you are able to get out into the garden this afternoon.

  • Goodness!  - sorry, OG - we seem to have missed that it's your birthday. I think you mentioned it, when it was EEs birthday.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, OG!!

--   and a Happy Easter to Everyone here, too!!
