WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY MARCH 11, 2018

Hi All: Just got in from movies (Three Billboards....); pizza in the oven.  Back later.

and now they're off to kindergarten...

I wish, I wish. I am counting down; it is 10½ months more until kindy.

So much cooler today, mid 20s and low humidity. Amazing how much energy I have.

Sadly, one of my cousins has rung me an hour ago to tell us that his brother in law, my cousins husband, has died this evening. He never recovered from the heart attack he had in the snow last week. Very sad:  they were devoted to one another and had been married for over 52 years.

I'm so sorry to hear this.  Our thoughts are with them.

On an equally sad note, Ken Dodd has died.  RIP.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Good Morning, All.  Thank you, Clare.  Was shocked to see your news of Ken Dodd so have just been reading his obits - he had only just come out of hospital after several weeks treatment for a chest infection. One of the old time greats, never be another.

    Have a safe journey, Annette.

  • On a more positive note I'm enjoying watching the crows and magpies collecting nesting material in the neighbourhood!  It's brilliant living in a house that overlooks woodland.

  • Good morning, ALL.

LINDA - nice that you are seeing friends out there - I think knowing local folk adds so much to one's understanding of the place and culture!  Sorry your cousin lost her husband from the heart attack in the snow - will you need to travel back for the funeral, or will they wait for you?

ANNETTE - safe journeys and have good family times in AZ!  How the years fly by as "our" young ones pass more birthdays!

Big family storm brewing - well, more than brewing, it's now explosive; not a problem between the three of us, but very upsetting - as with others, it's another "at a distance" thing.

New mattresses expected today - the ones delayed by snow ten days ago!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • OG: I agree about local culture and making friends with "the natives" as it were. But these friends are English (from Norfolk!) and we have met them many times here when our dates for our break have coincided. The ladies we met yesterday are likewise German, from Munich. This afternoon we are going to meet them again at their new apartment, with a lovely couple we know too, from Denmark! It's very multicultural here, and there are also Spaniards who appear here on holiday from the Spanish mainland.

Sorry to read that there are family upheavals, never nice. Hope it can be resolved amicably.

Sun is bright again - off out to buy a small gift for our hosts this afternoon.

(Glad it's cooler for you, AQ.....)

  • Manton Bay's Maya has returned!

    WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

  • Wow!  Maya the record-breaker!  The season begins - bring it on!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Welcome home, Maya!  I really must follow Manton Bay more carefully this season - the camera is so good.  May(a) she be the first of many more 'returnees' we will celebrate over the next days and weeks.  Let the season commence!

  • Great news that Maya has returned! This is a nest I like to watch because the pictures are so good- but then so are Loch of the Lowes, Dyfi, and of course, the original Loch Garten. And there are increasing numbers of other cameras. How are we going to find time to do anything else? I am going to have to ration myself.

It is difficult not to get involved with all their lives and relationships.

Dishwasher arrived today, but not without complications! To be sorted.
