It's finally March and our birds will start to return this month.
BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Just checking in for the start of the season. We will be up in Nethy next week and hope there’s an outside chance that there may be some osprey activity. We’re going to visit the usual fishing spots, just in case, and will report if we see anything.

Hi everybody! Nice to be back. This is my first opportunity to log in but I was so excited when I saw that dear Maya is back safely. She is one of my favourite ospreys
Good to see you back Patily.

Tiger Signature
Maya and ?? Unable to identify but has a blue ring.
Birdies LG DU update.
Good question, Tiger. One looked to have a blue ring on the right leg. I couldn't see if the other had any rings although one might have been Maya--not at all certain about that. Is it usual for both birds to mantle on first arrival on the nest? I thought that mainly the male mantled until he was certain that the female was friendly.
Kind regards, Ann
EJ used to mantle at first when Odin arrived, though in the year he arrived in the middle of the night she more or less moved her tail aside as if to say 'well, what's keeping you?'
Thanks, Clare. I didn't know that. I imagine Ospreys are individuals and not all behave identically. Just remembered Monty landing on Glesni's back as his first action on arriving home!
