WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY FEBRUARY 18, 2018

Thought I'd give Diane a break this week. Sorry, no pretty pic, but here's a link - posted by Gardenbirder late Saturday - to a funny BBC page re the Wales earthquake:   http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-43100524  :-))

  • Cold and sunny here. Still can't attempt weeding, ground very damp and claggy but looking forward to doing some as soon as possible when the ground is more friable.

Son and Sam started their journey home early this morning. Sam and I had a pact - neither would cry when he left! I got a huge hug and had a few tears after they had gone.

LINDY - enjoy spending time with son and grandchildren!

OG - Take it that your new car and scooter have arrived. Hope that the weekend away goes well.

AQ - I find that time spent with young children is lovely but very tiring, these days!

    LYNETTE - thinking of you.

    Regards to all -

  • Well, today hasn't started as normal. Got up at 6.30 to get OH started on her first things in the morning and let cats fed and out. Then crashed out and woke up half an hour ago! Not me at all! Now contemplating the glorious sunshine with somewhat of a puzzle: its 10.45 and the temperature is -3°C and FALLING! Younger SD due soon, probably after a look at how her house is going. Hope those who have been looking after little ones are now recovered.

  • Lurker here...

Just escaped to do a few essentials that have fallen behind due to a busy week.

It all kicked off when youngest arrived 6pm last Friday after driving from her home to Essex to pick up a rescue dog. She then drove up to the Highlands with just 2 wee stops.

So we now have 2 Bull Terriers..

Duke is a rescue from abroad who was found in conditions I won’t go into. I have only seen the edited better photos but OH has seen the video of his rescue. He was funded by The Ansolute Bull Terrier Charity. He found an amazing foster mum who then said goodbye when he took a 3 day journey to his foster Dad in Essex.

He has his health issues but all good now after quick Vets visit Sunday afternoon.

At present he had Daisy are doing joint walks but in the house separate most of the time ( only a baby gate) as she is being a Diva. It is all work in progress the signs are good and he isn’t going anywhere ever again.

He is enjoying the freedom of our large garden and has enjoyed sleeping indoors since his rescue. How long he had been outside nobody knows.

Stunning day up here although a tad chilly..

I do read but sadly will always be a dipper in and out :-))

  • Heather - got scooter, but has to go away with the car next week (not got that yet, still at dealer) to have hoist fitted!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • AQ: Wonder if Ms.L woke up later to harass Mom and Dad.

OG: Good things are progressing on the scooter front; here's to a pleasant night away and that you don't find  it too taxing.

Wendy: Lovely that you have a new rescue dog in the family.

Forestboar: You must've needed that extra 30 minutes - at least.

Heather: Had to Google claggy. Doesn't sound easy to work with.

I'm reading a book:  Word by Word: The Secret Life of Dictionaries written by a woman who works for Merriam-Webster. It's funny, fascinating - along the lines of Eats Shoots and Leaves, but much more in-depth, so to speak.

  • Your book sounds good, Annette. :-)

I'm waiting for my OH to come home with a treat, as we thought we'd have chish & fips tonight, as OG calls it! A busy day with our Youngest arriving at 9.30am with our two grandsons, all excited.

They played happily with a plastic racetrack we have, until we'd all talked enough, then we put everyone in the car and went to the local play area, where they enjoyed the swings and climbing frames. Back home after less than an hour, as it's bitterly cold here today. My OH set to and made some of his famous potato cakes which we ate with eggs, some of them fried, some of them omelettes. Yummy, but although my OH and I managed two potato cakes each, and our Youngest three (he's a growing boy!) the children refused to eat any and Tomasz only managed a plain omelette. Matthew only played with his eggs, which I'd made into fried eggy bread. Everyone except him tucked into a home made fairy cake or two afterwards. When the children went back to their game and we were all distracted, Bonnie took the opportunity to steal most of Matthews lunch!

  • Lovely to hear about the rescued dog, Wendy. We've had two rescue dogs and my OHs older sister has had six! She always takes the old, ugly ones which she feels sorry for, except for her latest dog Mabel, who's only young.

  • I think it was AQ who originally coined "chish and fipps"!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Oh yummy!!! -5 deg C and falling
