FCS ABERFOYLE - 2018

  • Another short video on Facebook from The Lodge Forest VC, showing Clarach and her mate on the nest:

Footage of both Ospreys on the nest this afternoon

  • Thanks Sami for the links to the videos on Facebook.

Has the Lodge at any time mentioned the explanation for why the camera is like it is.   If it is something that cannot be fixed, would it not be possible to get their IT Team to switch to the camera that the video's are showing from.    Surely they don't expect to stream the whole season like this.

I have wondered if the feed to VC is clear, or maybe they are using the other camera to stream to it.

  • Mary. See my posts at 12 24 and 2 06 above which I think answer your queries.

  • Hi MaryGK, in their earlier post today the Lodge Forest said it was “due to moisture in the lens”.  That camera is battery powered, and the batteries are charged by a solar panel.  If the problems with it can’t be fixed remotely, or don’t clear up in dry weather, then we’ll probably have to live with it until the end of the season as the nest can’t be disturbed.

I’m unsure how the second camera is powered nor how it transmits, but it seems to be mainly used for still images so it may not be capable of sustaining a live stream.

  • From memory, from my March visit, the second camera is streamed live in the Lodge and the now misted camera wasn't on.  But I have seen both live streaming in the Lodge in previous years.

  • I would have hoped that this period of sunny and dry weather would have demisted it.  What a pity it hasn't helped.

I have never been to the Lodge during the season, only ever go when we are up that way in November.

If it continues to be like this I can see me having to try and squeeze in a visit there to see what is happening.  Probably better to wait until there are chicks.

  • Thanks, All, for the pics and posts.  Hope the fog lifts on the lens.

Mary, So sorry but my finger slipped and after liking your post on the previous page I then immediately accidentally unliked it!  So the only recourse was to like it again which I did.  These computers can be tooooo sensitive or I'm just naturally clumsy--sorry.

    Kind regards, Ann

  • No need to apologise Ann :-)   I think that is why I prefer using my PC, when on the Ipad strange things happen that I think what did I touch LOL....

  • I think the picture get a little bit better every day

  • Seems to be Korky. Fingers crossed.
