Alan - I could easily have made the same mistake. I see the French for crow is "corneille"
Thanks, Sue. When I checked both crows and ravens in Google Translate they both came up as 'corbeau', which was less than helpful!

I have always been led to believe that The Twa Corbies were Crows rather than Ravens, But why can't we just use the expression Large Corvids in this instance? Generalised and maybe ambiguous, but better than inaccurate!

Hi, my understanding is that the song is a pre-cursor to the later English folk song called "the Three Ravens", I could however be completely wrong. I agree with your thinking but in relation to the song "the Twa Large Corvids" doesn't exactly trip off the tongue :) Ian
