Rosy, no need for apologies: sometimes there are so many of us on here that it's an impossible task to reply to all. :-) And anyway, I don't take offence :-)
Back to the question of other cultures -- When we are in Spain, I try to remember to begin every encounter with a cheery "Hola!" as it's in their culture to say hello and/or Good Morning before saying anything else. It actually seems quite a friendly thing to do, even though some transactions are made over the counter with quite a great deal of seriousness, as that is also their manner when in business dealings of any kind. I'd like to say that I now speak Spanish fluently, after many years of visiting lots of different parts of that country, but I only have a smattering. In spite of buying language tapes, and even children's books on the subject!
Must turn off the lights now, as my OH has returned from his evening out. It's been raining quite hard here today, but there's less wind.
I’m away for next 2 days, our last bus trip until March as too hot in summer. Titled 'Ports and Coasts', we visit Wallaroo, Ports Wakefield, Broughton, Germein, Pirie and other places between, staying in Port Augusta Sat night. Some places I have been before but there is always more to see. Weather should be pleasant, 23 C max, a few degrees higher than Adelaide.
Have a wonderful time, AQ!
I've probably missed you AQ, but will try to get a preview of those places before you get back,
Good Morning, and at the moment, goodbye to AQ, who is off on another adventure. Hope you have a good time, and good weather!
(Raining here again, at the moment)
Here's today's pic:
Unknown said:Clare: Late-Fall heatwaves are the norm here. I think it's when a low-pressure system enters the Pacific Northwest and creates wind currents that drive hot air from the interior toward the southwest, which is dried out after six months (at least!) of no rain; hence the awful fires we get. It's especially bad when the hot air is channeled through mountain passes by strong winds. Unfortunately, this condition can last into November and December. Our rainy season officially starts in November, but we often don't see rain until January.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Forestboar - What a horrible and upsetting time for you all. I'm so sorry.
FORESTBOAR What a dreadful time you are having, what with one thing and another. Thinking of you.
