For years people have been asking when the next British osprey translocation will happen, it being over 20 years since the one at Rutland began.
On 20th June 2017 we finally got to know that it is to be to Poole Harbour and what exciting news that was. To complement this Roy Dennis has also opened a new Facebook page called Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation
They are looking for 200 people to become conservation champions for a minimum donation of £250 each. All donations are welcome.
The project is a partnership between the Foundation, local charity Birds of Poole Harbour, and Poole based-business Wildlife Windows and is part of a wider conservation recovery plan of osprey in Western Europe and the Mediterranean region which was recently commissioned by the Council of Europe and authored by Roy Dennis.
This is such exciting news that will keep people interested for the rest of our lives.

Looking back it seems this bird has been at Poole since 4/4.
I can't find any 'result' from earlier posts where it was hoped we might get details of the bird's origin etc. from Roy.
The age of the bird is the thing I am looking for.
Does anyone have the answer please?
Birdies LG DU update.
Mike this is a great source of info www.birdsofpooleharbour.co.uk/sightings and Poole quoted this - Details of Blue AX8 seen in the Harbour recently - ringed on 19 June 2016 near Inverness.

Thank you Valerie. Missed that whilst I was on holiday!
So a two year old on its first migration. The question is will she stay?
All to play for.

Speaking as a local, I really hope so!
Interesting to see CJ7 was recently seen in and around Poole Harbour, after her stop over last year with the Fledglings.
With sightings of S1 earlier on it all provides a lot of potential interest for next year when hopefully a couple of the Youngsters will return.

Will news of the 2018 translocation be on this thread, or will a new 2018 one be started?
Richard I'm sure when there are any details a new thread will be started.
Last year the chicks were delivered on 11/7 so we are a few weeks away yet I suspect.
EDIT:- Richard your post prompted me to look at the Poole Harbour site and I see there is mention of this years translocation being a few weeks away.
They should be here in the next 4 - 5 weeks I believe, a total of 14 chicks this year.
I was in the new BoPH premises today. It's a very smart place with live web cams, large touchscreen displays and plenty of smaller displays and details about the harbour and it's inhabitants, with friendly staff to help and give advice and info about the harbour Birds.
That will be great if they manage it Richard. I suspect that is the number licensed for translocation but it depends upon availability, access, weather etc and brood size so let's hope they can reach that figure.
All being well, I am going to be involved as a volunteer with monitoring the chicks after they arrive. As far as I know, the plan is still for 14 chicks to arrive around 11 July. I hope to be able to report directly 'from the coal face', as it were, but will have to check with those in charge how much I can safely divulge here.
