For years people have been asking when the next British osprey translocation will happen, it being over 20 years since the one at Rutland began.
On 20th June 2017 we finally got to know that it is to be to Poole Harbour and what exciting news that was. To complement this Roy Dennis has also opened a new Facebook page called Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation
They are looking for 200 people to become conservation champions for a minimum donation of £250 each. All donations are welcome.
The project is a partnership between the Foundation, local charity Birds of Poole Harbour, and Poole based-business Wildlife Windows and is part of a wider conservation recovery plan of osprey in Western Europe and the Mediterranean region which was recently commissioned by the Council of Europe and authored by Roy Dennis.
This is such exciting news that will keep people interested for the rest of our lives.

I went over to RSPB Arne this morning and it was beautiful. I didn't see any passing ospreys, but this is part of the area just waiting for them to start breeding.
That's a reserve creeping ever higher on my list of places to visit. One of these years we'll actually get there!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
It is a lovely area, Clare, both on the reserve and the environs. I am sure you would both love it.

Roy and Tim have been down here this week preparing for July with Birds of Poole Harbour. Naturally, they are much better at spotting ospreys in the area than I am!

Valerie
and this from the Harbour update - Today it was our pleasure to host both Roy Dennis and Tim Mackrill from the Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation who are our partners (along with Wildlife Windows) in the Poole Harbour Osprey Translocation Project. We’ve been out today checking up on various potential nesting sites, planning/discussing new nest locations and assessing the release site for this years class of 2018. In July we’ll be bringing the next batch of 14 Osprey chicks down from Scotland where our team will then raise and release them back into the harbour in efforts to try and restore a south coast breeding population over the coming years. Any of our 8 released last year that are still down in West Africa won’t begin arriving back until spring next year (2019), so we still have a long wait ahead of us. However there are migrant Osprey in the harbour currently and two were seen out fishing in the Wareham Channel at 9:30am and were later seen feeding on private land. No doubt more will come through before the months end and Middlebere, Arne and the Wareham Channel are definitely the places to look. Whilst out surveying for Osprey today
Thank you Valerie. The presence of migrant birds is indeed good news.
