For years people have been asking when the next British osprey translocation will happen, it being over 20 years since the one at Rutland began.
On 20th June 2017 we finally got to know that it is to be to Poole Harbour and what exciting news that was. To complement this Roy Dennis has also opened a new Facebook page called Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation
They are looking for 200 people to become conservation champions for a minimum donation of £250 each. All donations are welcome.
The project is a partnership between the Foundation, local charity Birds of Poole Harbour, and Poole based-business Wildlife Windows and is part of a wider conservation recovery plan of osprey in Western Europe and the Mediterranean region which was recently commissioned by the Council of Europe and authored by Roy Dennis.
This is such exciting news that will keep people interested for the rest of our lives.

Really good news that 2 of the 8 at Poole Harbour! Hope to see them return in 2019. Hope this project proves to be as successful as the Rutland project.

Thank you for the link Valerie, unfortunately I missed it. However I learned such a lot by listening to this vid about 8min in, with Chris Packham talking to Mark Constantine, the co-founder of Lush. I had no idea what Lush are doing other than ethical cosmetics and raising funds for Hen Harriers by selling bath bombs. But they do so much more. Just brilliant. I will go in the shop next time! I always find the smell somewhat overwhelming as I pass by!!
I will keep an eye out for this event next year and may try to go. It sounds so interesting, a bit like the Birdfair, in winter, with talks and demonstrations, but possibly not selling birding holidays!
As about 28minutes Chris talks of the impending talk by Tim - two Poole birds seen in Senegal. I haven't yet found a recording of Tim's talk. The vid is in blocks with intermediate pieces, but if you have the time, it is worth watching the whole thing. Fascinating!

Just had an email update from the Roy Dennis Foundation in which it is reported that one of the 2017 translocated Poole chicks LS6 has been found dead in The Gambia. More details will be published on the RDF website when known. Sad, but it shows that at least three of the chicks made it to West Africa.
Oh dear, Alison, how sad. Interesting that it (body/tag?) was found.
Very sad, Alison, but thanks for telling us.
Kind regards, Ann
That is very sad.
Here is the official report of the sad news.
