NEW CHAT THREAD

This is the new thread for the week. I am watching the news of the terror attacks in London. I don't think it's appropriate to post my usual wishes for a happy new week along with a cheerful photo. I will simply say that my thoughts are with all of my dear friends in the U.K. I hope you all stay safe.

  • Thanks, Dibnlib.

Wendy - As said, very sad but true.

So many stories coming out of the bravery and generosity of complete strangers. Also, many of the dead and injured are from various parts of the world.

  • Well done, LINDY's Tomasz.

Well said, WENDY's Daughter - a good way to express it!

I only went into the garden once today, although J didn't go out this morning after all!  Could go outside during the evening as daylight is lasting so long - only one heavy shower this morning, and looking at the ground you would never know it had rained as the wind is drying everything out so fast (quite difficult battling against gusts of wind with crutches!).

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Hi all: Some nice sentiments and lovely photo from Lindybird on here.  Congrats to Tomasz!

Thank you Diane for the new week.

    Have a good Monday everyone.

  • Good Morning, All.  Damp here, and set to last all day.

    Enjoy your daughters visit, Annette.

We watched the special concert by Ariane Grande last night, which was of course mixed, as it was mainly for the young uns. We like Coldplay, who were good, and Robbie Williams was almost too emotional himself, to sing well. Nice to hear this morning that well over 2 million was raised for the fund.

Must get on today with unfinished stuff - I started clearing out bedroom drawers over the weekend, plus dusting of various shelves etc.

  • Here's today's pic:

"Whoops -- maybe I'm too young for this!"

  • Good morning- a very rainy one here and apparently will continue to be so for a few days. Quite cool, also. My poor begonias...

Have just phoned the secretary to ENT consultant regarding the bill which he thinks that I hadn't paid. After confirming with her that there was only the one bill, I gave her all information from my records here including the date that the amount was taken from our current account. She will make enquiries. It appears that she may have been on leave when my cheque arrived and whoever opened the letter didn't record it 'in the book'. Now, my OH who was as you know, an accountant, would have requested a receipt. I probably didn't but in my defence, OH was needing 24 hour care and I wasn't firing on all cylinders. I asked her to check with her boss that he had looked at his own bank statements before writing THE LETTER. Some clever people haven't got any common sense. Anyway. We shall see!!

  • Hello, all.  Rather wet here - supposed to brighten up in middle of the day then finish wet again this evening; not complaining as garden needed it again.

LINDA - didn't watch the concert - too modern for me - but pleased it went well.

HEATHER - I hope you get an apology from the ENT consultant - maybe even some compensation for the distress caused.

OH is shopping at M&S Food and Asda.  Don't know what he'll do today - maybe some ironing!  I am putting my mind to what lunches will be acceptable to J during the summer hols but also healthy - I do wish he was more flexible.  I know it's still 4 weeks to the end of term, but need to have some ideas in my head!  He is planning to go up to Inverness - hopefully for a week; he will travel by rail, and also use the local trains from the station in Daughter's village for days out while she is at work.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • OG - The secretary/PA told me that if he hadn't checked his bank statements and they showed that my cheque had been credited to his account he would get a 'slap on his ear'!! I had to laugh. I remember our old hospital joke - 'What is the difference between God and a doctor?' Answer - 'God doesn't think he is a doctor'. Those were the days when there was more professional conceit displayed than is usually the case now.

  • HEATHER   Glad you were able to laugh. Remember though, it was not your job to get a receipt (though always a good idea) but their job to get their records straight.

  • I know that you're right, DIBNLIB. Mistakes happen but a phone call would have been preferable to the letter!/p>
