NEW CHAT THREAD

This is the new thread for the week. I am watching the news of the terror attacks in London. I don't think it's appropriate to post my usual wishes for a happy new week along with a cheerful photo. I will simply say that my thoughts are with all of my dear friends in the U.K. I hope you all stay safe.

  • Been quiet on here today, perhaps because of political things. I don't generally share my thoughts about politics, people or religion on a public forum. In part this is because it can cause controversy and in part because I have been moderated before, on this forum and now try to keep to the 'rules'.

The lack of sleep has caught up with me so will bid you all goodnight.

  • Hi all:  UK family agog with election results; let's just say they're not fans of the PM.

Daughter's plane took off two hours late! Poor girl will be sooo glad to get in her front door. I'm watching over the plane on Flightradar24.com.  Waiting for the "we've landed" text and then to garden with book and lunch prior to nap!

OG: I bet you're looking forward to that lunch. I see your fame precedes you.  :-)

    Heather: Silly billy indeed.

    Will catch up later.

  • OG - I hadn’t thought of freezing herbs. My chives always die back over winter, so I’ll freeze them when they recover. The first few times I got in car with new knee, I used the lasso they gave me in hospital until muscles were stronger.

    .

Heather – I would mutter more than “silly billy”!

    .

Annette – Remember when we would wait & wait for the 15-second phone call to say family had arrived safely?

    .

Last year Aussieland’s PM called a double dissolution of parliament as the upper house was not favourable. We voted. He ended up with a worse result. Sound familiar?

  • AQ: Indeed. And how is it the connection so much clearer then?  :-)

  • AQ: Finally catching up with you in Truro!  Was that the Sunrise Bakery you were raving about?  And the only church I saw near Paisley was the Blanchtown Advent Lutheran Church...  Don't know why I'm surprised to see how wide the Murray River is (though according to the Moorundie Cairn site, there've been a lot of floods. Does that still happen?) I saw theCairn on Google Earth and the link was great. What a great project. The story of the corroboree was interesting - I was going to ask if there was the same kind of animosity/rivalry between some of the tribes as there was in the U.S.  Now I'm wondering if they had horses (thinking Hollywood movies now!).  I notice that another tribe showed up but kept their spears in their hands.  That telegraph station is handsome

(On that link, I love the Lowbank School plaque with the "correction"  just below it! :-)) Wonder why they didn't replace the original.)  Well, I found the Blanchtown Hotel (where the others ate?) but I can see how you'd get lost looking for the other place, wherever it was.  Shell Hill was interesting. Will they put the Uniting Church up for sale do you think? Perhaps as a private home? It looks rather cold and modern. I think I've been through Cambrai (which has a nicer, old church) on that other trip because there's an ancient WWII-green horse trail parked on one street and I tend to notice horse trailers. Did you stop at that church at the crossroads in Sedan?  Popped into Nuriootpa and Angaston (the latter had some nice neighborhoods).  You do take nice photos, AQ!

OK. Off to bed. Worn out from all that sightseeing. :-)

  • Good Morning.  Wet again, here, but it's supposed to dry up later.

Heather: Hope you got/get a proper apology for the mistake over the bill.

Spent a lot of yesterday hacking away at our huge Lilac tree, which didn't have a single flower on it this year, because we had trimmed it the year before. They have the flowers on the old growth, so it looked as if we'd not get flowers if we kept trimming. Answer: major prune this time, less growth afterwards, and flowers the year after that. Unfortunately whilst my back was turned, my OH let out a yell, and I found that he'd cut through the nearby much loved Camellia by mistake --- over a third of it gone, and we now have a good view of next doors shed which was hidden before :-(

  • Annette - I'll answer your trillion questions tomorrow. Nearly time to transfer food from stove to plate. Brrr, expecting 3 C again overnight.

  • For those of you who really CARED about our wildlife when you cast your vote
