THE LOCH GARTEN GABFEST FOR MAY, 2017

If they could have placed the hatched chick in a two-chick nest, maybe all 3 would have survived.

Maybe or Maybe Not. As they never tried we will never know.

All I do know is that fostering out chicks has been successful in the past at several locations.

Remember this is the flagpole for UK Ospreys regardless of which nest anyone prefers. Not sure RSPB have that same thought as others organisations have.

  • May I spare a thought.

Many have used the word saddened by events that have taken place at LG over the past few days.

I have not used that word and neither am I disheartened or grieving. I view the ospreys in a different manner.

Let us put the whole situation into perceptive - It is an osprey and albeit at the flagship nest watched by hundreds | thousands I don't know. It happens all the time in Scotland as that is what young ospreys do. I guess PP7 will have tried this at other nests over the past year or so or may be his urge to gain a nest has increased this year.

Now what I am saddened by is the events that took place in Manchester last night and as I post it is reported 22 dead including children with another 59 injured and some critical.

Although I do not know anyone I do grieve for the families and friends of these people especially as a regular concert attendee. My wife and I are attending an Arena concert on Friday.

  • Keith, I accept, understand and respect your feelings regard ospreys.

As to the terrible happenings at Manchester last night, the entire civilized world grieves with you, myself included.

  • Good afternoon everyone. Have given forum a couple of days rest as quite upset about events at Loch Garten specially with the dissapearance of our beautiful Odin :( Couldnt stand to see the chicks starve to death abd dear EJ valiantly defending alone :)

I feel very angry about the devastating events of last night in Manchester and indeed puts things into perspective! My heart goes out to people who have lost young children and teenagers just speechless

  • Im not sure how I feel about translocation projects because initially I abhor the idea of taking chicks from nests, just doesnt seem right, the ultimate in human intervention, BUT Isee how well it has worked at Rutland Water, where the population is doing very well. Also has many returnees :) also increasing the Welsh poulation. I think Man is responsible for the decline in so many species maybe some minor intervention is needed to redress the balance. What do

  • Just thought this was a fitting post to say Goodnight to everyone, sleep well and may the lord watch over all of u all night long

This was posted by a friend on Facebook last evening.

  • June that is very appropriate in these troubled and violent times!

  • And these are the comments that accompanied it.

  • Like Willow, I think I am more angry and frustrated than tearful.  I won't be crying ,  but I can pray.

These posts are my expressions of sympathy to the families involved and to all of the UK.

  • Good evening all. Ive just read a tweet from Dyfi that they think Dai Dots intruded close to Glesnis nest!! They are waiting for a more definite ID but he had 2 dots and was a dark male. Oh i really hope its him  :))). Please let it be him!
