I agree I think they are cute but quite ugly at the same time! Amazing that they will grow into magnificent ospreys in such a short time !
The term originated with bobblehead dolls, 3-4" figures, often of sports figures, often placed on a car dashboard, where movement made the loosely jointed heads bobble.
Any Cincinnatian (and many major league baseball fans) would immediately recognize this bobblehead as Pete Rose of the Cincinnati Reds Baseball Team, one of the greatest baseball players of all time.
We have something similar here and the heads move side to side. Some have the Queens head and other famous people. Not sure what they are called though. When I first saw your pic I thought it was Elvis LOL! Till i read your post :)
Hi June, Hi Willow
First occasion of "bobblehead" on the community showing in historical posts appears to be by ALAN PETRIE on the Weekly Chat on March 13 2010. Or maybe posts before then are not available?
Thanks very much, Mulberry. Your answer sounds very likely! Did you research this yourself to come up with this answer? Or how? My congratulations on a job well done. It didn't even occur to me to try to track down use of a word.
So you still read Gabfest, at least sometimes. Interesting.
I first used the term in July 2009 on the Dennis Puleston Osprey cam message board site: puleston.osprey.bnl.org/MessageView2009.php;mess=0 . Hello June and all! I am taking a breather here from watching the drama unfold at the LG nest. I sometimes check in here - it is a lovely refuge, I just have had no time recently, but perhaps will have more time soon. :) Regards!

I found a 2008 reference for "bobble heads" from Tweed Valley:tweedvalleyospreys.blogspot.com/.../its-hatrick.html
and a 2007 reference in an eagle blog:http://eaglecam.blogspot.com/2007/06/wednesday.html
Cheers CC!
Easily done June. Word into search box, then select "most recent" then select the last page of results which will of course be the least recent! Yep often look in on things June.
Travelled home from Wales today and missed all the news from the various nests.
Not great with the loss of second chick at Manton Bay.
Glaslyn under intrusion whilst Aran sits on the other nest - One of these nests will fail.
And to cap it all just as I thought a stable Loch Garten all chaos breaks out.
I think if Odin does not appear with a fish shortly we will loose the two chicks already hatched. Not sure how long they can go without food.
JUNE - You were a bit premature in the praise for Blue PP7 (Cromarty) he just may be responsible for wrecking this nest.
