Thanks Paul for your lovely photo of a female Crossbill. I have never seen one despite spending quite a bit of time in the highlands every year.
Regardless of which species it is, they are both great photos from Darren and yourself,
Hello Everyone
Darren sent me some photos last night but I have only got around to posting them now.
He visited Balgavies yesterday, there were three birds when he arrived but he couldn't see whether male or female and by the time he got to the hide the third bird had disappeared.
The male GREEN BF was mating with the female that has no rings at all, which I think would more than likely be the same no ringed female that I seen him with on the nest in the last days of my visit on the 7th and 8th April. It looks like the female White UF has not returned, which is very sad after bringing up a four brood last year.
Hopefully this female will stay and lay eggs as it would be such a shame if the nest failed.
UNRINGED FEMALE
More great shots Mary. Let's hope nest is successful.
Birdies LG DU update.
Thanks again Mary and Darren - beautiful photos.
Very sad to hear UF hasn't returned, a real pity but let's hope all goes well with Green BF and his new unringed female and for a successful season.
Thankyou Mary for sharing those wonderful photos taken by Darren. Kind of him to share :) The Red kite is brilliant too. Sad to see White UF has not returned. Hope all goes well for BF and unringed female. Thankyou all!

Darren was at Balgavies last night, only the no ringed female was there. A nice set of photos including a lovely wee Siskin.

PART 3 of Darren's visit to Balgavies last Friday.... No further news on the unringed female....

I have left a message on FB page asking if anyone had visited recently to give us an update on the unringed female and if there was any sign of her laying an egg.
This is unfortunate with it being an unmanned hide, we are just relying on people visiting and leaving either a note in the log book, or posting on the Facebook page, then not everyone does Facebook.
Hopefully we will hear soon if she is still around or not.
