The purpose of this thread is for recording the season’s day to day activity at the Manton Bay nest thus freeing up the Rutland Osprey Project 2017 thread for general news on all the other birds, nests and projects.
For anyone new following Manton Bay, Maya and Blue 33(11) have been the resident pair for the last two years and to date have raised six chicks. More details about the nest and a table of the breeding data can be found here. Last season Maya returned on the 21 March and Blue 33(11) arrived a few days later on the 27 March.

I am sure I speak for us all in wishing Maya and Blue 33(11) a safe journey home and for another successful season at Manton Bay.
Just looking at the size of the hole in the nest, Maya will need a spade to fill it up, it is huge!

Morning all - I know Mary and it is so close to the edge. Hopefully there are no gaps left when Maya and 33 get to work on it as I always worry about the eggs.
Meanwhile the culprits are there just now looking smug
Just wait till Maya gets back!

Just love that fantastic shot by John Wright of Maya chasing the EG - those talons!
The EG has got up! I hope that isn't an egg
Got to go out now - will check the nest later. Oh I hope not !! SYL
It certainly looked like an egg in your capture Karen, but this is a capture taken just now and it looks empty not unless its rolled down.
Yes Mary, nothing to be seen now but I watched the nest/EG a little longer when I was getting ready to go out and it was pulling nesting material from around the nest and placing it in the hole.
When comparing your post above to your earlier capture this morning, you can see there is more nesting material. I think it could well have covered it.
I do think there is an egg but so hope I am wrong.
I am sorry to say but I think you are right Karen.... I had hope that they wouldn't lay any eggs, as they deserve to breed too, but just wish they would do it somewhere else :-)
Definitely an egg!
I am wondering if something has been at the nest since I last looked
It would appear that the nesting material has been pulled over covering the hole towards the centre of the nest as it is not quite so visible now.
Now I wonder if either the EG has returned or have crows been at the nest as if I recall right, it was crows that got rid of the EG egg back in 2015
Of course, it could just be the light!
I forgot to set auto-refresh on the MB browser, I've only got Ouch! for hours and hours. Dang shame >:(
IMAGICAT
Never mind Scylla :-) No doubt the EG will be back and we'll see then.
