The purpose of this thread is for recording the season’s day to day activity at the Manton Bay nest thus freeing up the Rutland Osprey Project 2017 thread for general news on all the other birds, nests and projects.
For anyone new following Manton Bay, Maya and Blue 33(11) have been the resident pair for the last two years and to date have raised six chicks. More details about the nest and a table of the breeding data can be found here. Last season Maya returned on the 21 March and Blue 33(11) arrived a few days later on the 27 March.

I am sure I speak for us all in wishing Maya and Blue 33(11) a safe journey home and for another successful season at Manton Bay.
Morning Noc ... he is indeed.
With that cold wind blowing down the bay, he really is a clever boy getting the nest well insulated.
ENS just now but we can begin to see the cup taking shape
Both have returned and 33 is trying it out

33 has flown and I must go too SYL
See you later.
Only Maya on nest at the moment. Nestorising the dozens of sticks 33 has already brought in.
These two should be the first to lay eggs then.

33 is ready for incubation :D
FISH!
33 has delivered a fish and Maya has flown off with it.
Thanks for the updates Noc .. I just switched on and saw Maya flying off with it.
The cam zoomed in just after Maya flew off
I can only think this would be to get a closer look at the green stuff at 33's feet!
It appears to be some sort of greenery - I do not think it is twine.

Yes, I would think so Noc as they are the first "pair" back to the public nests we know of.
Usually around 9 days after first mating if I recall right, so anytime from beginning of April :-)
ENS just now and I'm off out again. SYL
ENS at the mo, too!

Good afternoon thankyou for the updates and pics. Seems that 33 has been helping himself to the cattles dinner. Looks like a very cosy nest and appears even to have a house plant. Looks like some sort of ivy! At least he is using straw as I think last year he favoured cow pats! Got to be a better choice. I think he even added a dead bird :(
