The purpose of this thread is for recording the season’s day to day activity at the Manton Bay nest thus freeing up the Rutland Osprey Project 2017 thread for general news on all the other birds, nests and projects.
For anyone new following Manton Bay, Maya and Blue 33(11) have been the resident pair for the last two years and to date have raised six chicks. More details about the nest and a table of the breeding data can be found here. Last season Maya returned on the 21 March and Blue 33(11) arrived a few days later on the 27 March.

I am sure I speak for us all in wishing Maya and Blue 33(11) a safe journey home and for another successful season at Manton Bay.
There has been fleeting visits from a Gull and the EG's so far.
Birdies LG DU update.
Spoke too soon, the bandits are back! LOL....

Gone again :-)
Good Morning Mike
Good morning, MARY! I'm sure you were late ;-)
A single EG was first to pop to the nest after the Cormorant left, then a Gull (too lazy to find out what brand of gull) very briefly:

Good Morning Scylla - yes I was late :-)
The nest is empty again! for now.
EGs back prospecting. Camera keeps freezing but searching the previous area, scraping and now settled in same location.
EDIT 0753. Left the nest but there is a scrape exactly where the last one was.
Good morning, all. I think the gull is probably a young herring gull - the legs look pink and the bird doesn't look dark enough to be a great black-backed.
Makes a change to the Egyptian geese!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Morning all,
Thanks everyone for all the post updates and Scylla for the vids of the EG /Cormorant facing up - that was what I saw.
The nest looks a little trodden however thankfully it is empty just now and I just hope it stays that way until Maya arrives. But I expect not!
As expected, not empty for long.
