The 2017 season is almost upon us and my first thoughts are of 03(97) / Mr Rutland as he was usually the first back on or around the 17th March and heralded the start of the season.

Sadly 03(97) is no longer with us but it is nice to think of him and smile knowing his legacy will live on as we now eagerly await the safe return of all the regulars and also new returnees.
A safe journey to all.
Yes. 24(10) and 25(10) are the offspring of AA(06)/AW (he got a new ring when he was tagged) and the 'Scottish female'. 11(10) is Glesni's brother. They are the offspring of 08(97) and 5N(05).

Thanks, Hilary. Those wonderful 03(97) genes again--lovely that Glesni (and her brother, presumably) have had offspring.
Kind regards, Ann
Sheila, they are connected in that they are under the same ownership.
This article perhaps explains the set up as well as any.
Birdies LG DU update.
8 (97) was held up to be a disaster in the love stakes until 3 (97) with help from 05 (00) made him a wife. However by the time he disappeared in suspicious circumstances in 2011 he still had no known offspring return. Then one of his chicks from 2009 (Blue 03) and both chicks from his 2010 nest viz Blue 11 and Blue 12 returned.
Thus he did ok in the end
The story of 08 (97)
His wee sister 01 (99) was translocated to Rutland but she decided to go back to Scotland where she paired up with a disabled osprey Orange ZT and they bred for a number of years. There was a great saga at Blagdon lake in 2013 and one of the birds there was ochre ZT and for a short while it was thought that an osprey had come back from the dead. It was pointed out that ochre is not orange and in any case the bird wearing the ring was female.

Mike, what a fantastic article! It really gives a feel of the layout and contains some brilliant photos too, especially Mr Rutland 03(97)!

Indeed, thank you, Mike. That puts everything into context, and as Mary says, lots of brilliant photos.

Thanks, Karen, Fingers crossed that the rest of her journey is completely uneventful and that she is soon home! Anyone remember what date she arrived at Rutland last year?
