On DU there seems no doubt that Odin has indeed returned. WONDERFUL NEWS.
Oh drat!!! I had a perfect picture lined up of a head-on facial closeup of Odin? with a nice shot of EJ in the background. Then I pushed the wrong button and lost the whole thing. When I got the nest back in focus Odin? had left ad I was then able to witness a mating for the second time today.
JUNE - I guess that the fact that EJ has mated with this male osprey you have assumed Odin although I notice a question mark after his name.
Remember EJ favours any male that will come along before her mate.
Likely is Odin but I will wait for the RSPB Loch Garten team to confirm such matters.
Been to and fro to Aberdeen past week and a few weeks ahead but a chance each time to pop into Balgavies on the way up and down. It was very wet last week and no ospreys at nests I visited though Green BF has returned. The weather has been bad with low visibility and rain and should have a better week next week on my journey.
A colleague next week is taking me on a trip around the Ythan River area - many nests including the former home as a chick of Green BF. Hope a few more home.
I cannot ID Odin by sight, but I am inclined to think that this is indeed Odin himself. I have noted in the past that while Odin's chest is whiter than EJ's, it is far from pure snow white. The male I saw definitely had a sprinkling of brown across the chest. The black upright bar between & over his eyes was very prominent. This surely is a sure marker one way or the other for the many watching who CAN ID Odin. I eagerly await official confirmation.
Keith, Our last two posts overlapped, so I had not read yours when I posted mine. No I did not assume the male is Odin. But as I said above, I am inclined to think it is and certainly HOPING that it is. Last I looked, both had left the nest, probably for the night, although it was still daylight. I am awaiting tomorrow.
Hope that next week you are able to visit Lochter (The Cone Nest) and can give us good reports from there.
Cute picture, I thought. Made me smile. Reminds me of an Easter chick.
