Temperature translation & verification, thanks to the cute little thermometer I keep at my desk for just this purpose. Just as I thought 0C = 32F which is freezing. So temps are at or barely above freezing. This shouldn't be much danger to our family of adults & eggs or hinder Odin's fishing possibilities. Just hope the wind snow and temps aren't too uncomfortable for them.
No snow at present, but the nest is covered again. EJ (I assume ; that is, I assume it is EJ & not Odin.) is in there somewhere. Hard to see her when she is not moving.
It is snowing again, but I cannot catch it on cam.
5:30 am at Loch Garten. No snow falling, but the wind looks and sounds fierce. EJ seems ready for breakfast. 12:30 midnight in southeast Ohio and I'm ready for bed.
JUNE - EJ nest looks like an Igloo.
As the blizzards continue Odin rides out the storm.
Life fishing will be difficult during these conditions with the wind making positioning and viewing the surface challenging. Also the fish go deeper in this kind of weather and the flies do not skim the surface.
However Sheila FE has put some very wise words on the DU and I will quote Sheila
I am sure EJ will be fine without fish for a couple of days. She must have done more during migration, and then she is exercising. Hopefully the eggs will be fine, at least as long as the soft furnishings remain dry underneath EJ. Let's face it, if osprey have been on this earth for millennia (don't ask me for the specifics!) they must have endured a couple of cold snaps in that time.
I wasn't too worried about our family, although it my not be over yet. Already much of the snow is gone from the nest. And when I first logged in EJ was eating, the first I have seen that for many days although I understand she has been getting a daily fish. It sounds like rain again at the moment or maybe hail or sleet, as it sounds very klinky.
JUNE - It is cold tonight in Northern Scotland but not forecast any further arctic blizzards. The winds ease of tonight and then milder weather replaces this artic blast. So looks if the worse is over.
Pleased you caught her eating a fish - I believe first in around 30 hours.
58WILLOW - Now that S6 is home I guess you will be awaiting S1, S2 or S3 to follow :)
Looks like Loch Garten nest has had another sprinkling of snow. 12:41 a.m. here; 5:41 a.m. in Scotland. Odin on nest with EJ on eggs in background. Several times recently Odin has flown in just long enough for me to see him and maybe catch a picture, maybe not. I'm grateful to see him at all. It has been days, almost a week, since I have so much as laid eyes on him.
Odin is at this moment eating a fish, while EJ sits quietly and contentedly on he eggs. Anyway I assume that is their positions. Presumably she has already eaten her fill.
