We had a gorgeous wren in the garden this afternoon. I've posted photos of him here along with a few other birds.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Morning all:
Lindybird: There's an outcry here about women who wear their gym/yoga pants everywhere they go. Must confess I'm guilty, at least in the winter - they're so comfy - but I do stick to basic black.
OG: My Christmas decorations are ever more minimal; mostly just lights, candles, and my long-lived plug-in fibre-optic little tree. Sent some extras home with granddaughter this trip as she tends to go overboard with holidays. She also took OH's non-digital Nikon camera and lord-knows-how-many lenses back with her while grandson relieved us of surplus tools and I took other stuff to the charity shop. Result: Car now back in garage. Phew!
Clare: Like your blackbird and the formally attired corvid. Whistling Joe's pix took forever to load - probably due to his posting the hi-res versions - but were well worth the wait. What a hoot!
PatO: Sounds like you'd need a hard had and protective goggles to play golf in those temps.
dibnlib: Like Clare I've also found that if you attempt to speak French, most Parisiennes appreciate the effort and are helpful (well there was that rude guy at the Eiffel Tower). I was thrilled when a French girl came up and asked me for directions and I was able to give them to her - in French! (At least I think I gave her the right directions). :-))
Special hallos to Heather, Margo and Diane.
Off to get organized for friend's visit...

I'm a bit dim on names for items of clothing. I have a dressing gown and a bath robe (one warm and snuggly and the other towelling and practical). I have no idea what gym/yoga pants are ... but I frequently wear track suit bottoms - and sometimes the tops as well - in all sorts of bright colours. Shocking pink (with grey trim), Royal blue, dark turquoise are the current favourites. Call me style-less - but call me comfortable!
Christmas all back in the loft - 7 boxes instead of 11 - and that includes the tree. J has also put his away, but only slightly reduced. And the charity collection did take the prepared bag - and the bin collection is Thursday, so no more jingling from the wheelie bin either!
J is now cooking up some leftovers for tea, with OH as sous-chef. Smells good.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Well done on your usual organisational skills, OG! -- erm, I think I have about 16 boxes of decs, and possibly more if you also count the two large bags which hang up under the stairs with festive greenery in, and the tree which is larger than me, even in its bag, and the outside lights (2 boxes) and.........oh, heck I'll stop counting, LOL!!
AQ - how interesting. Yes, I am going to look up articles on the area and get an idea about the places we will visit. Enjoy your knitting and I am sure they will love the jumper and vests come cold weather time again.
Annette - enjoy your visit by your friend - lots to catch up on do doubt.
Clare - what a beautiful picture of the swan. Glad you are enjoying your time at Minsmere and Limpy too.

RSPB Giving Nature a Home
Must take down tree and the rest of the decs. tomorrow. We leave the lights up as they are stretched over beams etc and taking them down is such a hassle as when you get them out the next year they are all tangled up and take ages to untangle. Tree will probably go for recycling this year - its last years tree that we used. Thankfully only 2 boxes with decs and paper in to put away.
I have been looking at my emails, which I've neglected for a couple of days.
I had one from Margo yesterday, saying that she has been feeling very poorly, and not eating well. She was due to see the consultant today, and hoping that something could be done.
-----------------
We've not heard from Brenda for a while: I hope all is well.
Evening all: Nice relaxing dinner at home with friend, who picked up a wonderful apple pie before she got on the train from a bake shop we used to go to in Long Beach when we both lived there; we heated it up and had it with some ice cream I just happened to have in the fridge.
Clare: People shopping in their nightwear!? Are you kidding?! And would they pleased get dressed before they visit the school? Eeeek!
Lindybird: Thanks for the update on Margo, but not happy to hear she's feeling so poorly; do hope the doc can help. Maybe Brenda is recovering from the holidays - they were pretty busy there for a while.
Pat0: Yoga pants are just a soft stretchy fabric, typically in black, that are slim fitting and may or may not have a slight flare at the ankles, but cropped pants and leggings work fine too. They just have to "give" when you're busy tying yourself in knots! :-)
Hmm. I have just one box of Christmas stuff, but outdoor lights have their own box plus separate bags with labels reading "front of house/west side of garage," and "patio," etc., so I'm not starting from square one each year.
Off to bed; best thoughts to all....
