Loch Garten GABFEST in hibernation for Sept, Oct, Nov, and Dec, 2016

   True, so sadly true.  EJ, Odin, Rowan and Willow have all departed on their migrations, leaving the Loch Garten nest empty.  With none of these four tagged, and with the Visiting Centre closing on September 4th,  the 2016 osprey season is ended at Loch Garten.  With winter and frozen rivers and lochs quickly approaching Scotland, many of the ospreys we follow also have migrated and the remaining few soon will follow.
   As this is a Loch Garten Osprey thread and we can not expect any further activity until Spring, 2017, I am now putting The Gabfest into hibernation for the remainder of 2016.
   HOWEVER, If any one just wants to chat, we will be here.  Any personal news - Willow, any winter garden activity, news of the neighbors sheep or of trains, for example.  And Keith, we are always interested in your comings and goings. Any news of wildlife, pretty pictures of birds or flowers to brighten the winter days.  Maybe some music to cheer us up as the evenings get long and dark, As Christmas approaches Carols are always appreciated.  And of course if anyone has news of ANY ospreys, especially the UK ospreys we have been following. we will be here.  We might be buried in hibernation on page 2 or 3 but THE GABFEST WILL BE HERE.

    Keith, you scared me!  But I now see that is your farewell to the osprey, not to us.

    I'm not expecting much gabbing, now that our feathered friends have left us, so I have put The Gabfest in hibernation.  But I myself am not saying goodbye to anyone.  I do hope that throughout the winter months we will all find occasion to visit the Gabfest.  Whether separately or in chat groups, with pictures or without I hope we can keep in touch to some extent till spring.

    Don't Panic - Yes it was my farewell to our UK Ospreys. I am not hibernating but shall be migrating shortly if my house on LBV Golf Course is still standing. I think the other place where we are renting a house on Siesta Key got a hit. All the family was in the last Hurricane in FL - Hurricane Wilma in 2005 - we were in Miami only people left as we had no where to go.

    I am not in hibernation and if there is any news will post in Gabfest.

    Thanks, Keith, I thought you might know about the tagged juveniles!

    Everyone, I will miss the Ospreys, too, so fingers crossed that we will see them all again in due course.  I trust that if anyone learns news about any of them over the winter that you will alert the rest of us!

    Ann - We will also be able to watch the two year olds that came back this year do the return journey also and settle down again as well as others.

    BLUE UV who has been entertaining us around the Kielder Nests this year and also TV - FK8.

    FR 3 now a year old is also holding his ground.

    Cromarty from HFW (Roy Dennis)

    White 14 probably going back to Bioko Island.

    Adult 32(05) going back to Senegal Coast.

    I think maybe the 15 tagged may have included these birds - This makes up 8 + 6 (So maybe missed one)

    Will keep you all updated if and when I hear any news.

    Good morning all. Keith thankyou for the list of tagged chicks there seems to be quite a lot! We should be expecting FR3 to return next year wouldnt it be good to see his return!

    The highlight for me this year was the hatching of chicks for Loch Garten and the return of Clarach. The low point was the realisation that Mr Rutland was not going to return.

    I hope Dai Dot has not come to harm :(

    Evening Everyone.  I hope you are all well, especially with there being a few Ospreys still here to watch at Glaslyn, Rutland and Kielder to name a few.

    Keith, Thanks for the lists of juvenile and adult tagged Ospreys.  I am of two minds about following them.  Would love to see their travels, but not sure I want to subject myself to the inevitable demise of some of them!  Unlike you, unfortunately I can't seem to avoid becoming attached to them, and as any Buddhist will tell you, we ought to avoid attachment (and expectations) at all cost because the certain result is pain!  Perhaps I could dip in and out over the winter or only follow one or two or wait for reports from others.  Hmmmm, decisions, decisions.

    Good morning all. Seems as B33 and Maya have finally left us. I shall really miss these 2. Another successful season for all our ospreys and look forward to next year :)

    58 Willow - It has been just reported by ROP that 33 has been around alone in the bay all day. Maya headed south at 08:40 yesterday and has not returned.
