Welcome to a new week. Hope ALL the familiar faces will show up this week! :-)
Go back to page 8 of the previous thread to see Mike's link to the question: How do you free a Golden Eagle caught up in a very high tree without the use of a ladder? Page 9 shows Bowie posing for his closeup. OG and EE are busy shooting at cats and cheering on Housemartins in the midst of home repairs (the birds that is).
Brenda: Well, there always seems to be one lavender bush that I missed! I have to tidy them up and take off all the dead blooms once during the summer, then in the winter, I whack 'em all back by a third. Trouble is, they're all getting old and woody.
OH and I bought tickets to a concert tonight - Jean-Yves Thibaudet is playing Rhapsody in Blue and since the Music Academy is hosting the show, the tickets were super cheap. But now we're looking at each other and thinking we'd rather stay home in our comfy togs and relax. But no. Must hose off and rise to the occasion.
Was amazed that Djokovich got knocked out at Wimbledon so early. Shocker!
Have a good Sunday everyone.
Sorry M J Arlidge.
The golfers (professionals!) were moaning about the wind at Castle Stewart yesterday - a mere 32mph! I played that course a few years ago when the wind was nearer 50mph, with Scottish sideways rain added into the mix. Amateurs are tougher than pros ... or is it that we just don't hit so far?
PatO: Don't like the way the Raonic/Federer game has gone so far (Roger down 6-3 in the first set).
Early days ... but he is making life difficult for himself. I should think he's still pretty tired after his last five-set match. Come on, Roger :)
Clare: I don't remember seeing Ivan Lendl play (only because I was probably otherwise occupied in those days). I do remember McEnroe in his loud and obnoxious days and Bjorn Borg (looking very dashing sitting in the stands today); also yummy "Pistol" Pete Sampras! Oh good, Roger is now up 2-1 in the second set....but wait now it's 3-3.
Heather: I shall be there for the soup after the game. :-)
dibnlib: Thanks for the author tips. Just finished Abbatoir Blues (published here as In the Dark Places - the original was probably deemed too yukky for Americans' sensitivities!). Still waiting for No Cure for Love. At least Robinson is coming out with one each year.
Wildlife Center orientation today at noon. Hope these guys are done with their matches by then!
I'm impressed, ANNETTE - tennis for breakfast for you, but I guess no strawberries and champagne :-)
Lendl was a great player in Paris, but not quite so good anywhere else. And his manner was always dour. But I think he has really helped Murray. I never enjoyed listening to McEnroe - I think he was the person who encouraged all the bad behaviour and obnoxiousness (??) on court now. Although I have to say I do enjoy him now as a commentator!
Roger just gone to two sets to one! Come on, Roger!!! :) (If I was there, I wouldn't be shouting, but would clap like mad!!)
Heather: Set my alarm for 5:30 a.m.; now have one load of laundry in while I dash in and out to watch match. Oh well, must find something else for lunch today.
Pat O: What's refreshing about this game - I just realized - is that neither player is grunting or groaning. I keep waiting for Raonic to burn out and for Roger's experience to win out. Agree that John M is a great commentator, though he sounds just like his bro.
Oh Pooh!!
Well Raonich seems like a nice young guy. Roll on Sunday....
