Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey Topics), 19 June 2016

HAPPY NEW WEEK!

Last week's Chat thread is here.

On Monday: HAPPY SOLSTICE and HAPPY FULL MOON!

This will be the first Full Moon to fall on the June Solstice since 1967 -- the Summer of Love! -- according to EarthSky. Other sources say it hasn't happened since 1948.

The Slooh Observatory will host an online live streaming special dedicated to the Solstice and Full Moon combination event.

Everyone have a wonderful week!

  • Annette: I'm glad you're okay. SoCal is a mess. Record heat, high winds, multiple fires and evacuations... Phew.

If I had to place a bet, I would predict that the British will vote to "Remain". I'm not voicing an opinion on what they should do, one way or the other. I avoid expressing opinions about other countries' government affairs. I'm too worried about ours right now! But I think that people will be too afraid of the unknowns (for example, the economic consequences) of leaving. Political change of that magnitude is usually a tough sell at the ballot box unless a people feel really desperate.

So nice that OG is enjoying her holiday.

Heather, I hope your son-in-law is able to find comparable work without having to leave your country.

Take care, all. Bad thunderstorms due here tomorrow.

  • Diane: Did you hear Hillary's much quoted quip today about DT having written many books on his businesses/business methods "many of which end at Chapter 11"?   California's big; the north looks pretty good right now!  :-)

The other interesting story is the evacuation of someone from the Amundsen-Scott South Pole station......sounds like a perilous undertaking.

  • Good Morning, Everyone.   Sunny out of my window today.

Nice to hear from you, Lynette - enjoy the new car, it's more important than ever these days to have something reliable to get around in.

Annette - Good that the fires are dying down, there.

Hope things are going well for AQ!

Diane - You may well be right, people don't like change, and the arguments both for and against have been complicated and confusing. This morning though, there is a letter in our local paper saying "If we wern t already in the EU, and had to vote whether to join or not, would we vote to join..........?" Quite a good point.

I have not "told" my sons how to vote, my Eldest won't be told anything, anyway, LOL, but I advised them to just think hard and do as they think is right. My OH and I, and all of our friends, are voting Leave.

  • That's interesting, Lindy. I may not have an accurate perspective on the will of the British people. Our mainstream media has been biased in their reporting -- as they are on every issue. Plus, I've been focused on the chaos and crisis in our own system.

  • Diane - Its possibly an age thing, as a lot of us who were old enough to have voted in the 70s when we decided to join, are rather disappointed at how it's turned out. So mainly the older generation are saying "Out" whilst the younger are saying, "In".  Nothing wrong with feeling like a good European, but not what I signed up for!

The polls this morning show that there's not much in it, either way, so it will be dramatic, I think. (Not that the polls got it right at our last General Election, LOL!)

Hope your work is going well.

  • All I hear from the so-called 'experts' is trying to shout louder than everyone else, so much confusion, so many guesses and so much scare-mongering.

I didn't want GB to go into the Common Market in the first place.  However, now we are in the EU I think it would be impossible for us to unpick all the ties we have made.  I don't believe the scare stories about immigration, the economic outlook, agriculture etc etc - they are all guesses.  The bottom line is that nobody knows what would happen if we came out.  Actually, nobody knows what would happen if we stayed in either ... a scary time.  Everyone tells me I MUST vote, but I can see myself tomorrow standing in the booth, pen raised, wondering where to put my cross ... is there a 'Don't Know' box???

  • Dear All

Once again I am back in the land of the living and feeling what is for me normal. Thanks for all the good wishes that come  my way. OH has gone to his old firm to to collect a bit of work that he can do at home. His boss has and still is very understanding of the situation at home. He has also had contact with others who can put some work his way which can also be done at home. Will not be ever extending himself in any way but I think it is good for him to have a diversion. He is so much more relaxed now and not looking so very tired. As you can guess I enjoy having him home and do not feel so vulnerable.

When I went for the cross match before the transfusion the male nurse decided he didn't want to take the blood from my right arm as it was a bit bruised. Told him that is how it looks all the time now. Went for my left arm and the bruising is just horrendous. Good job summer hasn't really arrived and I can keep it covered. Was lucky again to get a bed for the day have to say I slept most of the time. By the time I get to the of the third week I am not with it at al.

Have a couple of outings coming up. Saturday our friends from London are coming down to see us so have booked a pub in the New Forest which has very good reviews and the menu looks good. Next Tuesday evening will be out for a meal with some other friends. Might be able to fit another steak in at the end of next week before I start to go downhill again.

OH is going up to London on Friday to see his mother. He has been trying to fit in a visit for a while but of course it all depends how i am feeling. He will go up early, take her to lunch and then travel back. She is understanding too and agrees that he should not be away for too long.

It looks as though there is some very stormy weather looming up. Hoping we will just be on the edge of it so fingers crossed. Always scared stiff but the storms we get now seem much more violent. Typical Glastonbury weather as well, saw pics in paper yesterday and there is already a sea of mud.

Billie is a bit confused by the new regime with OH being here all the time. OH is loving the fact that he can see what she gets up to during the day. She still brings so much joy into our lives.

diane what a lovely card for  AQ. Hope you are coping with the extremes of weather.

AQ hope op went well and you are not in too much discomfort.

Lindy lovely flower pics an the Bonnie pics are so funny. Her face says it all. I really felt your anguish over Bonnie's behaviour. You must be at your wits end ar times. Hope you get to see your family at the weekend.

Heather almost cruel that your SIL now has to wait until September to find out if he is going to be made redundant.

Annette good to hear you were not affected by the fires but sad again for the people that were.

    Pat welcome to the forum.

Dibnlib love reading about your walks and the food which sounds delicious.

OG pleased to see you are enjoying your time away. Must have been a delight to visit Rutland.

Lynette hope the new car goes well for you.

Brenda will think of you later as it seems you will get the torrential rain and storms.

Mike Thnks for the eagle link, what awe inspiring birds they are.

That is all for now, hopefully post more later this week. Take care all.

    Love Margo x

  • Lovely to see  a long post from you Margo and glad to hear you are feeling better after your transfusion. It must be lovely to have your OH with you and to be able to get out with friends. Very best wishes to you, your OH and of course Billie,

    Best wishes to everyone.

    Jenny

    Kind regards

    Jenny

  • Great to hear from you Margo and good luck with all your planned activities. Keep eating the steaks!!

  • Lindy: It's a fascinating and complex referendum from a political science perspective. I just hope for the best outcome for all of you friends.

Annette: You'd better head north and not stop 'til you reach Oregon. LOL! Also, I would not want to be the person flying that plane to the South Pole station. That's darned near a suicide mission. Very dangerous! Good luck to those pilots.

Margo: So lovely to hear from you. Glad you're feeling better. I so hope that you enjoy your outings!!! Best to you, your OH, and to Billie.
