HAPPY NEW WEEK!

Last week's Chat thread is here.

On Monday: HAPPY SOLSTICE and HAPPY FULL MOON!

This will be the first Full Moon to fall on the June Solstice since 1967 -- the Summer of Love! -- according to EarthSky. Other sources say it hasn't happened since 1948.

The Slooh Observatory will host an online live streaming special dedicated to the Solstice and Full Moon combination event.

Everyone have a wonderful week!

  • Hello all. Thinking about AQ but not sure if Aussieland have had Tuesday yet! Rather suspect so. I'm always very mixed up about that but know US times :-)

Yes, ANNETTE hot, but you are near the coast so imagine that you will be cooler? Our friends who lived in Rancho Mirage always came to Scotland for the summer months.

OH's son and family will be flying back tonight from JFK to London. Can't wait to hear about their adventures in New York.

Callum and Amy arrived home safely last evening. Can't remember if I already said that. They were very tired but their Mum had a chicken roasting in the oven so they soon perked up!

Tomorrow, youngest son in law will hear if he still has a job in the oil industry. Fingers and all else crossed for them.

Hope that MARGO is picking up now after her transfusion.

    Regards to everyone -

  • Morning all:

Lindybird: Brexit is working its way to the top of the news reporting here. Our PBS station sent someone to the Oxford Debating Society event, then interviewed people from both sides to get their views and the network channels are also squeezing in a mention.. The interest here is mostly on the potential repercussions for global finance, etc.; also the right-wing stance against immigration, which has its fans here. (Drives me up the wall when you consider we stole the country from the Native Americans.)

Heather: Lots of news from you, with more to come. Fingers also crossed here re SiL's job and let us know how OH's son faired in NY. Good that Callum and Amy safe back from trip.  Indeed, heat not that bad here by the coast, but I can hear the helicopters already making their regular runs to the fire as I type. I can imagine Rancho Mirage would be very hot as it's inland.  Re AQ's op: I've got London and Adelaide on my iPhone's world clock and as I type, it's 12:33 a.m. Tuesday, so AQ will likely have the op sometime within the next 16 or so hours.

AQ: We're keeping our eye on you!

Margo: Also hoping you're doing better.

Have some paperwork to sort through today, plus must corral some more oranges, then off to yoga this afternoon.

  • Hello.  I seem to remember AQ saying that the op was scheduled for the afternoon, but I may be wrong......   Hope all goes well and straightforward, AQ!

Annette - My take on the immigration issue is that we are just a tiny country-  you could tuck us into a corner of most US States or indeed, countries in Africa :-(  If Australia can cope with it by having a points system, then don't see why we shouldn't, too.  I remember my brother trying to go to Canada in the 1970s when he was in his late twenties - they wouldn't have him even though he was a qualified telecommunications engineer (he went to S.Africa instead, and is still there). Sadly, the worst thing about this referendum is that it's going to be very close, so approx 50% of the population is going to be bitterly disappointed.......

  • Heather - Lots happening your way at present. Hope your OHs son & wife have had a good time! Fingers also crossed here for your son-in-law and his job!

  • We had a wet morning here again, but the sun has finally come out now. Just had long talk to Friend, who has been holidaying on Anglesey and had good(ish) weather!  Told her it's been grim here and everything has grown.

Painting finished in our dining room and I'm starting to put things back. Tomorrow while my OH is out at golf, I'll move stuff in the kitchen and we'll carry on painting in there. Pleased with the paint colours we chose so all good.

  • Not sure where the last few days have gone. Margo rang me on Saturday morning. She was fine and should be feeling great by today. She is enjoying having her OH at home with her now.

It was our village mid-summer fête on Saturday, which was quite good, where we met a couple, who invited us back to their house for afternoon tea. Sunday, my OH played in a 'Top Clubs' bowls competition in the morning and then a league club match in the afternoon. I went to watch in the afternoon, but it was so cold. He has just left to play in a County match in Bexhill, this evening.

We went to a garden centre this morning, in the pouring rain, and bought a new garden bench, plus cushions and two large, blue pots, plus 8 bags of compost. All being delivered on Thursday morning.

I have had the flu jab since I was in my mid forties, as Dr decided that as my OH had asthma, I should also have the jab. Dr just gave me the pneumonia jab at the same time as my flu jab. One in each arm !

Annette, Thanks for the geography of the fire area. So glad that you are safe.

I have obviously missed AQ, before she went into hospital for her op. I do hope every thing  goes well and will be a success.

Heather, Everything crossed that your son-in-law keeps his job.

Linda, Pleased that you are happy with your decorating. No comment about Bonnie, just hugs to you and your OH.

  • Morning all (again):

Lindybird: Basically, there are just too many people in the world - I'm expecting Mother Nature to figure out some way to evict most, if not all, of us (an asteroid? the Black Death redux - which seems uncomfortably possible given the latest on antibiotics).  I'm sure your bro would have no trouble getting into Canada or even the US now given his skills are in short supply domestically these days.  No doubt you're somewhat relieved about how the paint colors have turned out..

Brenda: Oh hurray - always good to get positive reports re Margo. Thank you.  My sister went to a mid-summer fete Saturday - but not sure if it was her village, which has only about 28 houses and their village green is just about big enough to hold the residents but not many booths.

Have had to chase down OH for update/clarification on some paperwork.  Grrrr.

  • HEATHER   do hope it is good news for S in L.

Benson has enjoyed 3 walks today. Our main walk was at the canal where we met a lady with a young Collie and finished the walk in her company.  Tomorrow the weather looks fit for a walk at Loch an Eilein. We have had to put it off for various reasons recently so do hope we can manage tomorrow.  You never know we just might have to stop at MC for a good breakfast!!!

  • LINDY   I agree with your take on Immigration and the points system. It seems so obviously the way to go and so obviously something the EU will not countenance!!

  • You might just have to, DIBNLIB! We have got a few garden jobs to do, weather permitting. Just small jobs. Enjoy L an E.
