Hallo all: I put up the painters' tape showing the dimensions of the various flat-screen tellys (tellies?) we're looking at and now we're thinking maybe we don't need a really big one.
Auntie: Great that you had a lovely day at Pohtiolampi; how fun to see ospreys in action.
OG: I say put Loch Garten for sure on your trip north! We expect a full report! OMG: That python/gator photo was fascinatingly gross. Talk about his eyes being bigger than his belly!! Eeeeuw! Why did I think orchids were a hot-weather plant.... Well - if you go to Caerlaverock, hope you enjoy it. Are "kissing gates" the same as stiles? All I can remember is "Would you rather run a mile, jump a stile, or eat a pancake in a field?" Oh dear. Talk about regressing...... Thanks for update on Big Rig Steve; haven't been on the computer all day. Had earnest discussion with vines, who have promised to behave, and gave some encouragement to the tomatoes, which are being a bit shy. Currently, our ailing Navel Orange tree is getting a lot of TLC in the form of deep watering followed by nutritional snack that will make it feel better (and we hope, look and and taste better).
AQ: Universal laws transcend borders. :-)
It's July 4 - Independence Day - tomorrow; will start off the day shortly after 6 a.m.(!) with live Wimbledon coverage (on our normal channel - just checked!), then will putter about before picking up daughter in late afternoon to go to Mission Santa Ynez, where we'll watch July 4 fireworks display. OH not thrilled with fireworks, so he'll stay home and keep Lightning company (she doesn't like them either).
In the meantime, off to check on osprey cams.
Hi Annette just love your blogs always make me smile. Perhaps I should have worn ear plugs to some of the concerts I went to in my younger days, the volume was up to its highest and I have probably damaged my ears like that. Never mind I know you won't shout at me.
Margobird
I know what you mean, Heather - because that kind of thing drives me nuts - I even ask if I can straighten pictures in other peoples houses! If your radiator is not level, it will always look 'wrong' to you. Hope it all works out OK!
jsb: How awkward to have a problem with the door like that. I've shut myself out of the house on one or two occasions - difficult.
Enjoyed your jolly posting, auntie - goodness me, hot weather there! Nice for it to warm you all up after that brrrr! cold winter that you have. Glad you enjoyed 'Guys & Dolls'; that's lots of fun.
Also cold weather for AQ - a bit of a change after all the heat. Like oxalis, they're pretty things. Another Universal Law for you - when the phone rings and you are in the garden with dirty hands, and run into the house to answer, falling over dog on way, it is absolutely always a recorded message on the phone.
Here is another pic of the lovely beach yesterday: The sand dunes and the land around them are protected areas because there are rare plants growing there and some unusual species of insects etc., besides the rare red squirrels breeding in the woods.
-- the tiny dots in the distance on the beach, near the dunes, are people! - some of the only ones on the beach when we were there, although there had been a very noisy and excited School party having lunch in the sand behind the dunes when we arrived. Expect there had been a lot more people there the day before, on a Sunday. Note that the sea is not visible in any of the pics, as its so far out that its hard to get it on a picture. This beach is actually several miles long, as it joins onto the famous Southport Sands further north, and they are even bigger! When in Southport you can see diagonally across the bay towards Blackpool where on a clear day you can see Blackpool Tower (which is like the Eiffel tower, only smaller) I went up the Tower when a teenager, but felt so ill I couldn't look down and could only look outwards at the view.
Lindybird - A kindred spirit! Long years ago when I was training to be a mental health nurse, the Tutor deliberately put all the pictures squint - (maybe 'crooked' in English!) in the lecture room. After I had - of course - straightened them - thinking that I was unobserved - we had a discussion about compulsive behaviour. All I can say is that was many years ago and nothing has changed:-))
Linda and HeatherB - I'm not quite that bad, but my uncle was. One family holiday, when we were all over in Dublin staying with my aunt, he took down six small pictures which were lining the staircase wall (while she was out) ... they were incredibly crooked. He put them back straight ... and she never noticed .... until I confessed a few years later :-)

HA HA !! That's me, alright!
Margobird, Alan and Annette Leg is colouring up nicely, as bruises do! Doesn't hurt unless I knock it, so I'm really lucky. And even better, the bacon and egg roll was unhurt! The lady who cooks them knows I like the egg fried solid as I otherwise end up wearing it, so it didn't end up allover the car.
Lindybird Lovely beach pics and Buzz looks as handsome as ever - bet he loves to run there.
Margobird Good luck with the new hearing aids. I'm sure you'll get used to them quickly.
Evening all:
Heather: I've found that my level of concern with wonky things, such as your radiator, decreases in direct proportion to the hassle/cost of fixing them. Now pictures - that's different - I straightened a clock hanging over a door in my doc's office a month or so ago.
Auntie: Bad new from McDonald's I see. What is wrong with people (apart from guns!)
Lindybird: Part Two of Universal Law: you're in the garden, the phone rings, you trip over dog/cat/garden tools and find out it's a sales call (actually, we have caller ID and don't answer the phone if we don't readily recognize the number). Marvellous beach; we simply don't have much in the way of tides here. Water just recedes a little bit, then comes back in. I remember walking out along the beach in Littlestone (Kent) eons ago, amazed at how far out the tide was. We have dunes up the coast where Cecil B. DeMille filmed the original Ten Commandments - the movie set is now mostly buried under the sand and not generally accessible given that the area is also the nesting site of the protected Snowy Plover; also parts of the dunes are themselves protected.
patriciat: Glad the bacon and egg roll survived the incident. :-)
Have to think about dinner.....also see how H.M. is doing in the Big Apple (New York City).
Hi, all.
I, too, straighten pictures. I also store my spices in alphabetical order, put my books in exact order by author and subject, and I've actually fought the urge to move other people's furniture if the arrangement didn't seemed balanced. I also double check to make sure my oven is off, door is locked, iron is off, ... LOL LOL LOL
Lindy: A great picture of Buzz the Dog. That's the happiest dog I've ever seen. Such a good boy. Beautiful! Lovely beach photos, too. That's an awesome jellyfish! I read that if someone is stung by an American jellyfish, it's best to pour vinegar on the sting to neutralize the venom. With some species, a baking soda and salt water paste is best. I don't know about the UK, but I read that the jellyfish in Australia are waaaay more powerful, and lifeguard teams often carry morphine and anti-venoms. Right, AQ?
Auntie: My goal is for dust bunnies to be an extinct species in this house. LOL So glad that you enjoyed the theatre! Hope you're getting some good rest and relaxation. Patriciat: Hope your leg is better. Margobird: I hope your hearing aid works well for you and improves your life. jsb: That's sooo weird. The first task on my To-Do list tomorrow is to replace the latch on my front door, because it has been jamming! Seriously. AQ: Really love the additions to the Universal Laws. You should compile them in a book. :-) Annette: Thanks for offering to look up a TV in Consumer Reports for me. I appreciate it. A friend gives my Dad a few copies of the mag; I might look in there. It will be a while before I buy one, I think. Your 40-inch one sounds wonderful!
94 F/ 34 C here tomorrow with nearly 100% humidity. Heat advisories and air quality warnings in effect. It's worse further east, where temps were over 100 F / 38 C today. Officials there are warning of blackouts due to the strain on the power grid. I'm ready for autumn. :-)
Everyone have a nice Wednesday.
Hey Diane: Sun came out here at 6 p.m. - and when I took my daughter home at 12:30 (she caught the early bus down because her truck eats gas - you can watch the gas gauge sinking as you drive it - really!) the sun had only just come out. Everyone's complaining! If you can log on to CR's website, you can read all the reviews (but that's also true at Best Buy, etc.).
Hello all! I just love to read this thread :)
PatriciaT: glad your leg is getting nice colours. It reminded me the expression "terriblue" LOL Didn't that word come up here last autumn (?) when Margobird had a fell?
Margobird, hope you will get all the benefits and no downers with your hearing aid
Heather, welcome back and hope your holidays were good :)
Lindybird, Buzz looks always so happy, I'm sure he thinks he is heaven living with you and your OH
Annette, to see the gas gauge sinking... blaah. My tiny red Ziggy eats very little gas which is good with the gas prizes here (around 1,4€ per litre) . I'm so angry 'bout that shooting in McDonald's - the shooter was on parole/probation for killing somebody! And he was actually "doing life", but here that means just 12-14 years... And they said that this shooting started from just a mere argument...
Have a good Wednesday all, hope there will be a ring 'n bling in LG today :)
