Hi everyone, not seen much of the action yesterday as I have been on and off the computer. Believe it had its moments though.
All quiet as all three GEM's are sleeping and EJ must be roosting in a tree nearbye.
Not sure what the weather is doing, it sounded like a shower earlier.
Happy viewing, see you all in the morning.

I reckon they are all "mixed sex" and that 2 is more of a male and 1 and 3 are more female, but I think they all have a mix of both.

Budgie23 - have you discovered the Predictions for 2010 Thread yet? If you click "forum" above, you'll get a list of threads, and on that one you will find various predictions (only opinions) throughout this season. I agree with your comment re "mixed sex", after all we humans all have varying amounts of male and female hormones, and I don't think it would be different for birds, including Ospreys.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

Flying lessons ?
Formerly known as Barbara Jean
Hi Barbara Jean,
Yes, I am busy with preparation for my trip to meet newly-discovered members of my family, but not to busy to keep abreast of doings here. I'm just hoping that 'early next week' means Monday, because #1 seems determined to fly as soon as possible! I think #1 and #3 are females, but I'm not so sure about #2. That one LOOKS more male, but behaviour in the nest and towards EJ seems to me to be very female! I don't see the pecking of EJ as being rivalry, but an attempt to chastise EJ for not bringing food, or not bringing it soon enough, etc. I think Roy Dennis with say that this year's chicks are, well, FAT!!! I leave on 10 July (Aussie time) and return on 24 July, so I'm going to miss the excitement of fledging this year. I'll just have to read all about it when I get back, won't I?
Smiles, Jan.
Thanks for the kind comments about my photo of the chicks looking up .... sheer luck, clicking the mouse at the right time ... and of course being at the computer then too :-)

I agree about #1 being eager to fly. Yesterday EJ flew from the nest toward the tree .#1 immediately started flapping it's wings while it followed EJ with it's eyes. It looked like it wanted to follow her :) #1 has also spent more time standing on the edge of the nest looking outward.
The wind is very strong again today.
Sorry to hear that youre going to miss some of the excitement, Wattle. Enjoy your trip.
EJ is huddled against this gusty wind now, and the GEM's are all lying down to keep out of it:
