Weekly Chat Sunday June 27, 2010

Evening/morning all:

Lindybird; Yes!! What was the Drama next door?? Oh by the way, remember the "Tiger Woods" event down the road where somone drove into a neighbor's garage?  Well, heard it was yet another neighbor's young son, totally potted (drunk) who was coming home late and somehow mistook the gas pedal for the brake!!  Apparently, the Fire Department was there, etc., and had to cut the (uninjured) perpetrator out of the car because the garage door collapsed onto the car.  They've just completed the repairs.

OG. Ooooh. Another lovely butterfly. Thanks!

Alan: Watched the US/Ghana match - felt so bad for the U.S. team (but if they'd won, would've felt bad for the Ghana team!)  They started off so lackluster; then picked up in the second half, but then hit (to me at least) a sort of slump toward the end of the second half, but picked up again in the overtime, but to no avail.  It doesn't matter which team/player I support, I always feel bad for the loser. These people put so much time and effort into their games....  Soccer is so much more exciting than U.S. football where, as I've noted before, the players are all done up like Michelin men and spend most of their tiime in a pile.....

AQ: We had floor heaters in our church in Watford, and everyone huddled over them (and roasted!) during the winter months.  I missed the "red card" reference in your response to Alan....."

Our new back gate got installed today. I worked in the garden (after footie!) and managed to decimate a Potato Vine. Was trying to "re-install" it on the wall, but thought I'd be clever and trim it. Big mistake. Oh well, it'll grow back.

  • GeorgeG - I hear our respective Sons had a meeting last week, which ended with discussion of our Ospreyitis!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • aquilareen  just love those teddies.

  • Good morning lindybird always look forward to the Monday smile.

It is another very hot day here, last evening OH just slumped in chairs as the heat got a bit too much.  Had a lousy night's sleep because it was so hot.  Could do with a breeze like they have at LG.  Andy Murray playing today, wonder if he can get through another round.  Seems to playing quite well.  I think if his serve is on form the rest of his game is going to be good.

  • Hi Diane really liked that quote.  So very true.  I am off to see the Pet Shop Boys at the end of July and this gig is a standing git so lots more dancing for me.

Sorry about your weather it sounds awful.  Good job I am not living where you live as I am absolutely terrified of storms.  OG loves then and often goes to the cliff top to watch them over the sea, that is when we get one.  We have hada lot of hot weather for the past week so it is likely we will get storms eventually.  I see they had one at Loch of the Lowes last night.

  • Welcome back HeatherB glad you had a nice week.

  •

Margobird - I think Heather sets off today to Madeira - her comments on changes there were referring to other recent trips compared with earlier ones!

    All - I don't like thunderstorms - that was a typo.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Thanks original goldfinch I am in a bit of a muddle, must be this very hot weather it has addled my brains I think.

Sorry HeatherB got it all wrong.

  • Just got back from an enjoyable walk, took OH and Dog, and went along the Penine Way near to Lymm. We saw some  E n o r m o u s  cow parsley, and I took a pic with my 'phone camera so will now have to hunt for the USB cable so I can put a pic on here, it was an unbelievable sight. Lots of folks walking dogs, and riding their bicycles in the sunshine today, hot but not as hot as has been over the weekend.

Diane:   More storms!  poor you.  You seem to be in a very volatile spot for weather.  Like the sound of that love seat - do tell us if you manage to renovate it.  Very much liked your quote from Voltaire - never heard it before.

AQ:   You were absolutely right about my neighbour - she would hope to be no trouble to anyone, and would have sat there for three weeks if necessary before asking for help, probably.  We are told this morning that she is to have an operation on that arm today, so let's hope they can do something for her. She was 90 last year and we were shocked when we found out as we had thought her to be about 80:  she walks all over the place, and does her own gardening, except for the lawn mowing and hedge cutting.

Emma P:    You have certainly done the right thing, taking the time to enjoy your daughters this summer, as they all grow up and leave so fast towards the end of their time with you:  you won't regret it. Hope you enjoy having a more restful time, and get all those chores such as the opticians sorted out, same as me.

OG:    I hope that things go well with the boiler work today:  these things are so boring but you will be glad when winter comes that you can rely on the new one.  Loved the bright hibiscus flower, great pic.  Yes, the strawberries were from the allotment, and today he will be bringing back some raspberries too as we put some new canes in last year - we love soft fruit.

Hope Heather  has got off OK today for her trip to Madeira - probably too late now to wish her well.  Annette, it's an island just above the Canary Islands, where we go in Spring;  they are all  just at the top left hand side of Africa-  Madeira is Portuguese and all the others are Spanish owned.  All very popular with us Brits as not too long in a plane, and all have nice temperate weather all year round.  Madeira is known as the 'Garden Isle'  as there is more green vegetation there, and there are lots of famous gardens full of tropical plants.

Here is another pic of my garden to finish off todays ramblings:

--as you can see, lots of pink Thingummies together with white Whatsisnames, and some mauve daisy Whotsits in the background, together with a small red Acer tree !!

  • Afternoon all,

Thanks for all the chat and pics.

Annette : We had a Solanum at one time but it became too large and I had to get rid of it. Our garden is not very big and when you first plant some things you tend to forget how big they can get.

EmmaP : Glad you are getting your work/life balance sorted with more emphasis on the life bit.

I also hope Heather has a good holiday. I seem to remember there were mud slides on Madiera earlier in the year. Not sure how much damage that did.

OG : I hope your boiler gets fiited ok withot too much disruption.

Lindybird : I am glad you enjoyed your walk and nice pic of your garden.

Not a lot on today so it will be ospreys, footie and tennis later on.

Weather is hot again. Yesterday evening was unbearably hot. Not quite so bad at the moment. Temp 22.3c

  • Hi everyone.

Thanks to all for the many many posts and pics since I last posted on the weekly chat.  All top quality as usual.  I would post more but I have a severe case of Ospreyitis.  Therefore I often find myself glued to the LG webcam.  Had a couple of Blue Tits turn up today.  Hadn't seen any in a few weeks so I was rather chuffed.

auntie:  Sorry to hear about your mum having a stroke.  I'm glad her health is improving and hope she makes a full recovery soon.

    OG:  Stunning butterfly pics!

Diane:  Thanks for the heads up with regards to the Pete's Pond site.

DjoanS:  Nice pics of Beaky the Magpie.  Glad he can still manage to feed, in spite of his beak deformaty.

Lindybird:  Sorry to hear about your neighbour's accident.  Like this morning's funny.  LOL

HeatherB:  Hope you have a great holiday.  If this is a bit too late:  I hope you had a great holiday.

Alan:  I have to say Argentina look the best team at the World Cup.  I love the way they play brilliant football with a great sense of freedom.

Emma Peel:  A very belated Happy Birthday.  Hope you had a fantastic day.

AQ:  That's a great pic of the teddies in the garden.

A very happy Monday to everyone.  I hope you all have a fantastic day.  :-)
